Why do some NBA stars seemingly want to ruin the regular season?

I love the NBA, I try to watch at least a little of it each night, but this time of year it's tough.

I don't mean the resting, it's the lack of caring, just look at the Cavs last night, they clearly don't care anymore about playing until the playoffs.

Why do some of the best players/teams WANT the last month of the season to be pointless?

NBA regular season is probably the most meaningless of all the sports.

Because they want to win the championship

See why do so many teams add to this belief by not giving a shite? I get tanking for a high draft pick but I hate playoff teams coasting

Because they want to rest so they have a better chance to win the championship.

Yea I mean I understand the reason I guess I just wish they had some incentive to play.
Maybe get rid of a few playoff spots and create BYEs for top teams so they care about being the #1 seed?

Of course then the first round might suck

Meh, I dont think its more meaningless just because its got twice as many games. Playoff placement is much more important in baseball than basketball.

They're lazy and they want to earn money without working for it. Same
reason why players have their best years in contract years, and usually have a slump the year after a new contract

You're watching the wrong teams. The only teams that are legitimately "resting" players are SA, CLE, GSW, and those bitch arse Clippers (sorry, I just hate that team). Everyone else is scrapping for playoff spots.

I think we've made the mistake of generalizing the entire league of constantly resting.

Make each playoff series best of 5, and give the team with the better record 4 home games. You'll see some trying then.

Which is why I don't start caring/watching as intently until the playoffs start.

I love the NBA playoffs. Well the Western side of the bracket.

Well, it is pretty pointless for the teams at the top, so there's that.

Because it's so.

What is Houston playing for right now? What is CLE playing for right now, knowing they don't really have a reason to give 2 shits about losing the #1 seed to BOS?

The NBA players have those large, guaranteed contracts. For a large majority, once they get theirs, it's all bout themselves & their money. That & chasing the ladies around the league.

We've seen Lebron and his team stink it up late before, it's never mattered.

As I keep saying, eventually they'll miss a Finals and everyone that pointed to the regular season to and saying how they called it will be right. It may be the 3rd or 4th time they called it, but yea, they'll get it right at some point.
