Why Do People Think the Conference Championship Game Doesn't Matter?

Big 12 defenders are pissed TCU got passed by a team who risked their playoff spot by playing an extra ranked opponent (unlike TCU or Baylor).

But if conference championship games didn't matter, would you have been fine if Bama or Oregon lost yesterday but remained in the playoffs? If the extra game shouldn't help you, then it shouldn't hurt you either. Then, say yesterday you had #4 Bama vs #5 Mizzou, it wouldn't matter who would have won, because the conference championship game couldn't hurt you, and Bama automatically would have gone.

Until the Big 12 gets a championship game, they will continue to get fricked.

Surprisingly, a lot of Big 12 homers don't realize this.

Well put...

The Big 12 should have scrambled for a championship game. They didn't. Screw em.

It is.
I thought in 2011 when Oklahoma got skipped by Bama, it would be obvious to everyone.
But apparently, they are still oblivious to it.

Why do people think they do? It's not like Ohio State played an extra conference game than TCU or Baylor. They already played 9 conference games. OSU was just catching up.

The conference championship game only exists for one reason, money. Now that conferences have expanded they also serve a legit purpose but the Big 12 doesn't need one because they already play everyone and it's already been settled on the field.

It's just an easy "out" for the committee when splitting hairs because there are enough people dumb enough to buy it.

who knows, people love to overreact on emotions.

If Baylor/TCU went undefeated theyd be in the playoff without a championship game.

It doesn't matter, they are risking an extra loss. A risk that TCU and Baylor are not taking.

Wrong.
If the BIG 12 had a championship game in 2011, Oklahoma State would have been in the NC instead of Bama.
They made it for money, but now more than ever, it adds value to your resume.

Derp. What value did FSU get by beating GT? Going 12-0 was just as good as 13-0.

Baylor going 12-0 = playoffs
TCU going 12-0 = playoffs

Championship game =meaningless

DONT LOSE = youre in

Ok, lets look at your world then.
Lets say they go undefeated...and then so does everyone else

Alabama 13-0
Oregon 13-0
FSU 13-0
Ohio State 13-0
Baylor 12-0
TCU 12-0

Championship game = meaningful
So you can create scenarios all day where it wouldn't matter, and I can create scenarios where it does matter.

So youre saying that conf championship games might not matter in some scenarios?

Ok good, glad we both realize how pointless this thread is.

This thread is totally pointless esp when lets say next year the ACC or Pac 12 champ gets left out with 2 losses.

Every year someone will be left out.

And I am also saying that in a lot of scenarios, like today ( cause today already proved you wrong) it does.

The extra game is Ohio State playing Kent State, they aren't risking anything.

Oklahoma State was beating Oklahoma 44-10 on conference championship Saturday while bama was sitting at home watching on TV. The media had already made up their mind about who was playing LSU.
