Why do college coaches spend time recruiting positions that aren't line or QB?

Look everyone loves a great RB, Safety, CB, or WR, and if your lines are already stacked then go for it.

It seems irresponsible for teams that aren't already set at OL and DL to recruit other positions other than QB, you can find athletic kids to play your skill positions there are tons of them. If you don't have s deep good line you suck doesn't matter how good you are at "skill" positions

Because you don't want a class of 25 linemen?

I don't know. But Nick Saban found the winning formula when he was at LSU and perfected it while at Alabama. Since Alabama's run began back in 2008, it has been marked by elite offensive and defensive line play.

I'm saying if you don't already have the line set

Exactly, and he usually gets elite skill players once he sets his lines

Most teams do, there just aren't enough elite big linemen to go around.

So don't recruit anybody but linemen and QB until you get those positions locked up?

Because you get shite on in college football if your defensive backs can’t make the first tackle on a quick screen

Similarly. If you have wide receivers that can make the first DB miss, then their defense is in trouble

Notice that the spread offenses are responsible for most of the big time CFB upsets. They somewhat neutralize the advantages in the trenches. It is way easier to find a couple of good receivers than good linemen. A team with average talent will never beat Bama, Ohio State, or Clemson with 3 yards and a cloud of dust

It's almost like it helps to have good players at every position.

It's easier to recruit skill positions because there are so many of them.

Coaches TRY to recruit elite linemen but there aren't many of them to go around.

If it were as simple as 'just recruit the position and it will work' everyone would do it.

People believe they have recruited the solutions; in the end, a huge number of recruits simply never ever pan out, at all-- they're essentially wasted scholarships. And you never know which ones will be which, or when an injury or early NFL departure can wreck your careful plan.
