Why did athletes in the 90s think Coca Cola was good during sports?

Here is a letter pete Sampras wrote to his 16 year old self looking back. One thing he wrote was how could he be so stupid to think Coke was a good idea in a match. Isn't it nuts as recent as the 90s athletes thought this? Right Mattz?

This will never be more apparent than at the 1996 U.S. Open. You’ll face Alex Corretja in the quarterfinals, and in the fourth set, you’ll run out of gas because you didn’t eat properly before the match. You’ll need a boost, and you’ll reach for a can of Coca-Cola.

I think Connors used to drink it a lot. Personally, a regular Coke is one of the best things when I feel queasy, so I could see it for that or a little energy burst. But, anything more than a can or so during an athletic event should = vomit. Regular Gatorade or Powerade are sugar bombs, too, though.

The 90's were The Dark Ages for human athleticism.

That's cause you have an addiction to sugar.

Sab you my dawg So you think Mattz will at least be a man and admit defeat? He has literally followed me around in multiple threads calling me out about athletes drinking cokes in the 90s

The standard diet amongst top-level athletes during the '90s consisted of Coke, Dunkaroos, Iron Kids Bread and the Arch Deluxe from McD's.

Did I ever say they didn't? Nope. I simply said athletes in the 90s drank coke for a quick boost. Then you followed me around for 2 months in every thread. It is a Litttle man that can't admit they are wrong with a simple fact is staring them in the face

Athletes today drink Hennessy and coffee and eat hotdogs for a boost. Looking back, athletes in 20 yrs will be dumbfounded.

I haven't had a carb since 2006.

It was the cocaine in the original formula before NEW coke came out.
