I got flamed on here a few times last year for saying it was ridiculous teams were courting the guy so hard and saying he was such a key piece to a contender when he was getting up there in age and really not that great a player. Here we are a year later and he's averaging 14 pts and 6 rebounds and 1.4 blks while not even shooting 2 ft a game. I still dont get the al horford hype, is he one of those guys who does more than the stats show bc I really dont watch too many celtic games.

This season Horford has helped direct the Celtics’ high-powered offense, and he has been even more efficient and precise than most expected. While on the court, he has assisted on 23.8 percent of the Celtics’ baskets, blowing away the 14.1 percent assist rate he compiled over nine seasons with the Hawks.

Horford is averaging 4.9 assists per game, which is third in the NBA among players 6-10 or taller, trailing only Clippers forward Blake Griffin and Bucks guard Giannis Antetokounmpo. Horford also is one of just three players averaging at least 4.9 assists and fewer than 1.8 turnovers per game. The others — Ish Smith and Jameer Nelson — are true point guards.

Even though Horford has not been a dominant scorer, he is quietly in the midst of one of the most complete seasons in NBA history. He is averaging 14 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game. If those numbers hold over the final 16 games, Horford would become just the ninth player in NBA history to finish a season at those levels.

He's a good 2 way player. He's been a bit inconsistent this year, but I think he's also had to adjust a bit to how ball dominant Thomas is.

He's not a superstar but he's the 2nd best player on a pretty good team- doesn't that kind of speak for itself?

I will forever hate KD because of Horford.

Horford was absolutely going to sign with OKC if KD stayed.

Our starting 5:

Russ
Oladipo
KD
Horford
Adams

Pardon me while I go vomit

ok fair enough, but do you think $30m/year or pretty close to it is worth it for a guy of his caliber? Do you really see him being a #1 or #2 option on a title team? Also his fg % has dropped of by about 10% off his career avg

He would have been the 3rd option on a title favorite team in OKC. So 2's not really a stretch. Could be like Gasol on those Kobe teams. A big that can do it all including distribute the ball.

Im not saying he's bad, im just saying he's a nice complimentary player when you have a good team but he's making nearly $30m while averaging 14/6/5 and shooting 45% from the field. Yes he's a good FT shooter for a big man but he never gets to the line. The celtics are winning yes and they can afford him bc of all the young talent on cheap contracts from jaylen brown to marcus smart and even Isaiah has a friendly deal but most teams cant drop $30m on 14/6/5 and be a 2 seed.

He got market value in a weak time. KD was the best FA followed by Hartford. It isn't really what he is being paid Considering the way salaries have sky rocketed in the NBA.
It looks bad now but in two years it will seem relatively average.

can we discuss this again? Because the celtics suck and this piece of garbage got $113M for 4 years......hardly an impact player, actually quite the scrub bc the 8 seed is running through his squad

1. The greek freak p.g. project in Milwaukee may be deemed a success.

2. I'm convinced the NBA is breeding aliens to play this game.

He's more worth it than Carmello, certainly.

He's a worthy #2 on a title team, as long as you have a true #1 star, and a upper end third guy.

The Celtics problem is they have two middling #2 types. That's a recipe for not winning big in the postseason.

Horford is a fantastic supporting piece, but that's what he is, a supporting piece.

Problem is he's the second best player on the Celtics, and there's no scenario in which he's the second best player on a championship team. Third best maybe depending on the other two players.

He can be; the alpha has to be a Lebron/Westbrook/Curry type player, though, and the 3rd guy has to be an upper end 3rd guy-- think Prime David West--- You can't win a title with him and a Paul George/Roy Hibbert pairing at #1 and #3.
