Can Sterling say, "Sure I'll sell the Clippers...for $1 Trillion dollars."

Normally when someone is in such dire straights that they're forced to sell something, they aren't going to get market price. Especially when the other parties know it's a forced sale.

ETA: This literally one of the only aspects of this whole story that interests me.

But I mean, if he doesn't really want to sell, can't he just set it super high and nobody will buy it?

I would have agreed with you until the Bucks sold for $550 million.

When the league bought the Hornets, they bought it for about $300 million. Shinn allegedly had 2 offers on the table, a lowball local offer from minority owner Gary Chouest, and a carpetbagger offer from Larry Ellison who wanted to move the team for about $400-$450 million. I don't know how they settled on $300 million, although the league was one of Shinn's creditors and he was reportedly on the brink of bankruptcy when he had to sell the team, so he was a motivated seller unlike Sterling.
