Compare the clubs and technology that went into design and manufacture of them in Jack's era to Tiger's era. For example: Nicklaus shot 17-under par 271 in 1965 for a 72-hole record lasting 32 years until Tiger Woods shot 18-under par 270 in 1997. So, 32 years of advancement in the tools of goldf and Tiger at his best was one stroke better than Nicklaus.

I like how you dont mention the difference in distance in the course though

Right. Because the course didn't change at all during that time period

Do you think Michigan is the best football program? I mean, they have the most total wins right?

If you are going to bring this up, you should also mention that the phrase Tiger-proofing became a thing as courses started to try to prevent Tiger from embarrassing them.

""It took away -- at the time when I was still one of the longest players out here -- it took away the par-5s," Woods said of how Augusta National has changed for him. "I used to hit driver and iron to every par-5. That's what Freddie [Couples] used to do. That's what I used to do. And back when Jack [Nicklaus] played in his day, that's what he used to do."

That was from an ESPN article. So Tiger and Jack were going at the course in the same way - and abusing the course in the same way. And Tiger-proofing wasn't a thing in the instance I mention.

Then there's this: Tiger Proofing Done the Opposite

So you are saying Jack got to play Augusta every time where he hit driver/iron into the par 5s, but now Tiger cant because they changed the course

So you are saying Tiger would have passed Jack already if they didnt change and make it harder on him?

Jack had longevity and consistency on his side but Tiger Woods at his peak is the best golfer in history and I do not believe there's a close second.

Career: Jack > Tiger

Comparing the two when both have their A+ games: Tiger >> Jack

Was listening to an interview with Gary Player before the Masters. He said Tiger is the most talented golfer the world has ever seen. He also thinks, which is a huge conjecture on his part, that had Tiger never messed with his swing after 2002 that he would have won over 20 majors.

Well, if you want to take clubs into account, you also have to take courses into account. They were more difficult in Tiger's era than Jack's. And Tiger's equipment back then wasn't that much better. However, the jump in technology from 2000 to the present is astronomical. I actually saw a bit on TV where pros were hitting old school wooden drivers and they really didn't lose all that much in distance compared to drivers of Tiger's era of dominance. The big jump you see now is anyone can hit the ball 300 and clubs are much more forgiving with oversized heads, ultra light graphite shafts, etc. Tiger actually had been using outdated equipment for years until very recently.

And been in a wheel chair. His swing was so violent and all of that was going straight into his left knee.
