Here's an example of why I think ESPN sucks that doesn't relate to politics as much, but culture. I missed the first half of the first round of the draft and came across this video lsst week when I was trying to find a video of Fournette getting announced.
This kind of betrays the point of the OP article a little bit, since Shapiro is who brought Smith in there, but I think it's worth pointing out that this is type of silliness Espn has doubled down on. It's fine until Clark stops his initial spiel around 0:40. But after that, honestly, what is that shite? It would be kind of funny in isolated circumstances, but this to me is the norm for ESPN. How can I watch that and pretend that is good insight? How can a moderately educated person relate to that garbage?

You should turn it off if you don't like it dumbass. But idiots like yourself never watches ESPN but always running to TD to post about something that was said on the show. But you always say you were in the lobby of waiting room of some business. GTFO here!

Heres an example. I'm moving in 3 months and I will be cutting my cable. I'm never home and I have over 500 channels? Why?
And I espns new model doesn't even bother me. It's just a waste of money to me IMO.

I've never cut the cord on cable.
I never watch espn, except for live broadcast of events.
I used to always watch espn 10-15 years ago.
I quit bc I want to see highlights and commentary from greats who played the sport. I'm not interested in hearing a activist "journalist" keep me up to date on which two WNBA players married each other this weekend or why North Carolina is racist and not allowed to host events.

When you didn't have Internet watch highlights, when there wasn't a million other things on Netflix/HBO/etc, and you were probably young with free time.

Sure, there's multiple reasons. ESPN's content as of right now, hasn't really hurt them all that much. it doesn't mean it won't in the future, just means not that many people are cutting the cord with the main reason being that they just don't like ESPN any more.
Except that it has. Here are some facts for you Deep Root Analytics
quote:
We analyzed viewership data in a large media market in a swing state (Cincinnati, OH) for the entirety of 2015 and 2016. Also, to control for any changes in partisan identification between 2015 and 2016, Deep Root Analytics analyzed viewership among the same audiences across both years.
quote:
In our analysis, a clear trend emerges: ESPN’s viewership in this key swing state market became less Republican during 2016.
quote:
In 2016, every daypart on ESPN became less conservative, with Daytime being only 2% more Republican than Democratic, while Late Fringe and Overnight programming became 10% and 12% more Democratic than Republican – a 22 and 28 point shift, respectively. The same is true across other ESPN properties. ESPN2 skewed Republican across most dayparts in 2015; in 2016 all dayparts skewed Democratic. Every daypart also switched on ESPN News from 2015 to 2016. ESPNU was the only network that retained its mostly Republican audience.
Sports fans are cutting the cord DESPITE THE FACT that it will cost them ESPN. This is the first time in the history of the channel that this is the case.

It's basically factual that cord cutting from those who don't even watch ESPN is the biggest reason ESPN is losing subscribers.
Evidently people don't thunk ESPN is good enough to keep their cable package because of shotty, political laden sports programming.
Arguing against that is like saying 2+2=5
Count me in the group. I held out for a while just because of college football on ESPN. But their daily programming has gotten too ridiculous.
Yes, cord cutting and ESPN politics are related.

Exactly. They seem to think that people are calling their cable providers and asking to drop ESPN alone
Well for a lot of people, sports(specifically live sports) is the only reason the cord hasn't been cut. Probably shouldn't start aggravating the only thing keeping people tied to cable. If anything, the big cable providers should be screaming at ESPN to knock it off and just talk about sports.

Problem is, attempting to bring in new viewers has ended up alienating their old school core viewers.
True. Those old school people found out they can watch ESPN live events via streaming without having to carry a package to watch. The daily programming used to be decent, now it's shite.

My biggest reason for not using espn.com or their app is because it's impossible to watch just the hightlights. They always start out with someone trying to give a re cap or breakdown and then the highlights. ESPN went south when they convinced themselves people like espn more than sports

True. I was one. Hell, my TV never left ESPN for years. It got to where I only watched live programming, then found I could do without.
Their programming changes go hand in hand with cord cutting

You seem upset. Don't worry, just because I don't watch ESPN doesn't mean you can't enjoy Jemele Hill's commentary.

How many people who paid for cable, mainly for ESPN, cut the cord once ESPN started to suck?
How any ad dollars have they lost with their dwindling ratings?
Are you sure 2+2=4?
