I heard last night that Roy Nelson has absorbed something like 600 significant strikes to the head. Dan Henderson has also been knocked out a bunch and seems to go down easier with age. Is it easier to get knocked out the older you are or is there something that causes you to get knocked out easier the more you've actually been knocked out?

The latter. That's a fact.

It's a combination but more of the latter. Once a fighter receives a devastating KO, the brain shuts off quicker from then on out.

I wonder why that is - some sort of defense mechanism maybe? Rather than allow you to continue absorbing punishment, it just shuts off.

Didn't realize getting knocked out cold one time in over 40 fights was a bunch. He's been rocked a ton especially the last two years. But he's the toughest mother fricker to ever compete in MMA. His chin was and still is unreal.

Roy Nelson & Dan Henderson?? Lmao

You pick those 2 guys when talking about fighters getting KO'd a whole bunch?

Dumbass you could've picked any 2 random fighters from any era and been more accurate than choosing those two

I think most come back too quickly, but they almost have to because of money.

Rousey did it right. You should be taking a year off minimum after a knockout. Problem is most of these guys cant afford to because the pay is shite.

The ufc needs to have some kind of base salary system for fighters.

I thought he's been KO'd in three of the last six after never having been knocked out?

Are there many you can think of who've absorbed more than 600 significant strikes to the head? It seems most don't even last long enough in the sport to take that many hits nowadays. Maybe Nate Diaz or Overeem?

I don't have all the answers, that's why I asked. It is clear you are an Internet black belt though - congrats.

Also, show me where I said anything about Nelson and knockouts. I'm talking about shots to the head.

Some dudes are just bad motherfrickers and can take a punch. Nelson is that dude.

Being KO'd by 1 guy in 40+ years is not "knocked out a whole bunch"

No, he is just probably just tired of people(who obviously know nothing about the sport) asking stupid questions about MMA.

Tough crowd. Knocking bastards out on the weekends and policing the More Sports Board in between. I'm sure all the fighting greats can sympathize.

Nope, haven't been in a fight since my Navy days over 20 years ago. Try again.

Almost all of them. Although almost all have a good less risk than boxers. The essence of that sport is being punched in the head by padded fists.

You can hear the difference pretty easily when the comparative guys from both professions are interviewed. The boxers like George Foreman who can still talk intelligibly are incredibly rare.
