In light of last night obviously. Football officials can pick out a holding call or defensive interference on any play and get away with it. Pretty substantial in a league like the NFL where anyone can beat anyone one. Pretty sure basketball officials just make up fouls. Soccer has gotten better since VAR arrived in most leagues, but calling for a penalty kick is one of the most powerful calls in officiating. Don't know enough about baseball or hockey.

If you consider bowling a sport, it’s probably that.

If not bowling, probably tennis.

Ultimate frisbee doesn’t have referees

And I don’t think they can make someone’s golf game worse

That's why it's a broken, unpopular sport (where other sports are available)
Imagine if no one could hardly ever score in basketball except on foul calls. And then at the end because still no one has scored, they have a free throw shootout to determine the winner. fricking garbage.

One of the reasons the NHL is my second favorite sport (soon to be favorite) is because officials can't tilt games as often. Even if they do, a power play doesn't guarantee a score for the team that isn't short handed. A lot harder to work a puck into the net from the refs as opposed to working a team down the field for football. Refs in football can literally escort a team into the end zone when they please.

This is an interesting thing to call the most popular sport in the world

Cuz France, Britain, Spain, etc. have no other sports? Ok.

I actually agree that Baseball gives the least amount of control of the outcome to officials of the major team sports. Penalties aren't called against players in the same way that are subjective and pitchers are required to at least get the ball close to being over the plate and give the hitter a chance to make contact.

Granted an umpire could make a horrendous call on an 3-2 count with runners in scoring position that completely kills momentum but the other team still has to get 27 outs.

Hockey isn’t so bad because the officials typically lay off their whistles. They will even allow shoving and some punching between players after a stoppage. When a penalty is called, the effect isn’t so bad. One or more players goes to the penalty box and it’s 5 on 4 for 2 minutes most of the time. Even then, the team that had the advantage doesn’t score more often than they do.

So, hockey CAN be affected by officiating, but they have to try pretty hard to do it.

That being said… there’s never been a better time to get into hockey!

Correct the average middle class Brit grows up in what's called a council house, we call them government projects here, they have a community green instead of their own yard and they have no equipment and no gyms and so all they can do is play soccer because it doesn't require anything. It's a poor commie sport

And that one bad call could literally decide the game. Angel Hernandez videos on YouTube. Go watch what one notably bad umpire can do to games with just one call.

95% of plays rely on a person determining where a small sphere thrown at 90+ mph crossed a 17 square inch pentagon.

so not that one

There’s that. There’s also the Out/Safe calls which can change everything and no other sport allows refs to just toss out players or coaches for yelling at them for making a bad call. At worse, there are penalties for it in other sports, but just tossing an HC or a starter for getting mad? That gives umps more power than you’d see elsewhere.

Tennis is pretty much all automated now. Umpire is just there for show. The US open last year did fully automated line calling
