How about free throw percentage?

How many times does the coach have to bench Gasol at the end of games for his lack of contributions from the charity stripe?

Gasol averages 4.5 assists.

Howard averages 1.5 assists.

That means Gasol creates 6+ more points per game for his team than Dwight.

So yeah. Kind of important.
That was in the playoffs.

What, now y'all are going to change the argument back to playoff numbers? What happened to the "small sample size"?

The thread title has Playoffs in it. I assumed we were talking about playoff stats?

Also, when you put both of them at per 36 in the playoffs, since they played different minutes per game, Howard averaged 1.4 assists, Gasol averaged 4.0.

So we're talking about a difference of 2.6 assists.

If that's the main thing Gasol has over Howard, then that is a pretty weak argument.

We were. But people in this thread didn't like the numbers, so they wanted to change the rules and say "look at the regular season too".

Now, y'all want to go back to playoff stats because you found one number you like better there.

Marc's FG % is lower because he actually takes mid range jumpers. His only shot isn't a dunk.

He's also a MUCH better passer and facilitator and I think better defender. He's so much more physical than Dwight, who despite his size, is soft as baby shite.

Let's switch the name out...

Did you just compare Marc Gasol to Josh fricking Smith?

I'm leaving.

I didn't compare them at all. But taking and missing mid range jumpers isn't a good excuse for having a bad field goal percentage. That's my point.

Y'all seriously remain the most butt hurt group of fans I have ever come across. SI ranked Gasol as the best C, ESPN will likely do the same, and so will the NBA FO poll. Get over it.

Like seriously you post stats in your OP and you conveniently leave out the one stat that separates Gasol from most centers? Be more petty.

I could write out some long elaborate response, but it would be such a waste of time.

That's right. Championships are won with high assist numbers from centers. Of course.

One stat isn't going to make up for Gasol being dominated by Howard.

Like I said. Waste of time.

Their head to head numbers would disagree.

It's okay to criticize your own player, unless of course you believe shooting under 40% in the playoffs in his last 18 games is acceptable. To each his own.

Let's just be real. Do you REALLY think that Dwight is currently a better all around player than Marc Gasol?

Do you really think that?

I absolutely think that Howard is more capable of being a critical piece on a championship team than Marc Gasol. People call Howard soft, but nothing about his playoff contributions says that he is soft. Marc Gasol's playoff numbers scream soft.

Marc shot poorly in the playoffs, but a large reason for that was Conley getting hurt. That pick and pop jumper he is so good at the elbow is a lot more difficult to run when you are running it with Nick Calathes instead of Mike Conley.

He obviously realized this which is why he got to the line a career playoff high 8 times a game (shot 85% on).

It's strange that you say that because you seem upset.

You could just as easily make the case that y'all were just fine without him. He isn't a focal point and as his athleticism leaves him he becomes less valuable. He isn't an overly smart player. He still only has the one post move he's had since he came in to the league. He still can't shoot free throws. He literally never touches the ball the high post. He gets in foul trouble pretty regularly.

I agree that the regular season Rockets can function without Howard, but the playoffs are a whole different ball game. The game slows down, and Howard is required to anchor the defense. His rim protection is still absolutely elite.
