and you were giving offensive numbers...

Yeah, because DukkeV was saying Russell shut Wilt down..

So I posted Wilt's offensive stats when he went head-to-head against Russell to say no, Russell did not shut him down.

I promise I just participated in this exact thread like 2 weeks ago. But anywho, Shaq is top 10 imo. Only players I'd take before shaq is MJ, Kareem, Wilt, Magic, Bird, and Robertson

It just depends how you rank players. A lot of people go by careers. I look at who was the best during their prime, and they had to have a prime of at least 5-6 years. Saying that, I would take Shaq 1 or 2 if I could have any player during their prime. He and Jordan would be the two I would choose from and you could go either way.

It's a team game. Russell had better teams by far.

Chamberlain averaged 28.0 ppg against Russell in close-out games. Russell averaged 11.5 ppg.

So Wilt did his job when it mattered most.

"Why Russell? "

11 freaking championships for starters....for every Jordan v Lebron discussion that ends in number of championships, Russell has more than both....yes, those Celtic teams were EXTREMELY talented, but Bill Russell was the difference maker....as great as Wilt was, he had a tendency to fade in the post season, at least that's his reputation....Russell fails to get as much respect as he's really due...

I think he's overrated, but I would have him inside the top 30. Off the top, probably somewhere between 15 - 20.

I agree, but I don't think he's losing any sleep. He's more proud of the 11 rings than the individual honors.

I say he's between 10-15 when comparing careers

His prime was as dominant as any other great player tho

I would like to know the ages of some people in this thread

Just curious if you saw him play live? Not you COTiger you just happened to be the person I responded to

Shaq in his prime was absolutely dominant.
ETA, wondering if you guys are young and remembering him at the tail end of his career or if you guys saw him play in the 90s

Some of you people are crazy. Seriously. If you dont have Shaq in your top 15, then yo dont deserve an opinion when it comes to basketball, period.

I'll go ahead and respond. I'm old enough to remember when the only NBA telecast was on Sunday afternoon (CBS I think). I saw both Russell & Chamberlain. Russell was a much better player than an analyst after he retired.

The Celtics were a great organization as evidenced by the titles they won. Red might be the best coach ever.

I saw Shaq his entire career. As I said previously, perhaps the #1 underachiever.
