Your idea is dumb regardless, youre turning a 12 game season into 8 regular season games and 4 preseason games (just lol)

that's not what it is now?

Because no MAC, CUSA or MWC would schedule a ranked team ever, and cruise into the playoff. Marshall has played like 2 teams with a winning record.

Because college football fans are obsessed with keeping the system subjective

if you have 3 at large slots, the system is still subjective

It will be 16 teams eventually. THis means a lot of 3 loss teams will be given chances at a title

your proposed system does this, too

Or we could actually watch the game on the field.

i mean they do this too.

I would rather have a conference champion playoff or BCS system or even go back to playing the conference tied in bowls and letting people vote on a champion than have a 16 team playoff.

Seeing a bunch of rematches and second chances and winning the conference is meaningless? No fricking thank you.

Not a single 3 loss team in the power 5.

Ultimately, I'd love to just take 5 and give one team a bye week and tell the other schools to form a new division in CFB.

You act as though that's the norm.

the fact that it's a distinct possibility invalidates the double rigidity (set # of teams and a qualification re: conference champs) of your system. and the BCS era has shown tons of examples of #1 and 2 in a conference being super duper elite (2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 etc)

So ooc games no longer matter?

It would affect seeding so it would still be meaningful.

Big problem with 8 is that there are a lot of years where the 8th best conference champ sucks. You would have to set a minimum standard for a team to be in the playoffs.
