I want to hear want non soccer fans think of the tournament so far. Not necessarily specific games or all the flopping the dirty Mexicans are doing but the actual production.

I've only been able to watch a few and in bars so no commentary but I've heard it's been pretty bad.

Do you think it should even be played here?

I'm really disappointed in how few people are in the stands.

Not a fan of Fox's soccer coverage but ESPN's coverage of Euros will blow this out the water. Are any of you excited for that?

i'd imagine the vast majority have no idea what it is

*ETA: and that's not an elitist comment. it isn't a huge deal and i only know when the US plays by following the soccer board

It's soccer so the meatheads think it's girly/gay.

Heard of it.

Know it's soccer related

That's literally it, no clue what it is otherwise.

I'm not anti-soccer, in fact listen to XMFC a lot, but am just kind of a casual fan. We lost the first game, right? I see that there are games involving other teams, but have zero interest. This has nothing to do with World Cup qualifying, does it? If not, it's just a weak exhibition. The Euro competition is sort of cool, but even that is just filler between World Cups.

I think the Copa quality has been pretty high actually so far. There are some bad teams like haiti for sure but overall i've been pretty impressed.

Yeah that's kinda what I was expecting, fox hasnt done a great job of getting it out there to the public.

By having it on FS1 and FS2 I feel like they have limited the audience

as much as I hate ESPN I wish they could have gotten both cups

NBC does an amazing job with EPL so maybe they should get a Cup soon

like I said I think more people will watch the euros because ESPN know how to market it and will have it easily accessible

I think you are a market they are missing out on, if they could advertise it in a way that sheds more light on whats at stake, mention the fact most of these teams are at WC and it is important in the long run and sell people on a team to get behind more people would make the step from "eh, its on ill watch" to "What the frick coratia your midfield is stacked how do you not make it out the group!!!"

FS1 is a killer. I pretty much only watch sports when I turn on my TV, and have never watched FS1 other than for a baseball playoff game. I have no idea where it is on my channels, whereas I generally know things like NBCSN and NFLN.

while there have been some surprising displays from lesser sides keeping things interesting (like paraguay), central/south american soccer will never sell in the US (outside of the die hard latino fanbases)

it's too "small"

The style of play is actually pretty appealing. There are only a few of the lower quality teams that have resorted to a pack it in on defense and rarely counterattack strategy. It has been mostly end-to-end football with pretty good use of space by attacking sides. There is an incredible amount of action, and the players have been able to demonstrate their skills, or lack thereof. It is a pity the matches have been on FS1 and FS2 instead of more readily available networks.

Euro isn't that much better overall. Definitely the bottom countries in Copa wouldn't qualify for Euro, but if you compare the top 8 Copa compares pretty favorably.

the quality is there though. i mean you have 4 of the worlds best in brazil, argentina, chile, and colombia.

ecuador has looked decent and are like top 15 i think.

mexico seems to be playing well right now. uruguay is always decent. i've even been impressed with peru. i havent seen much of bolivia or panama and i know haiti looks bad.

costa rica has surprised me how poorly they've looked.
