Not why, but what specifically. Seems like the teams that give em out give them by the hundreds, so they have to be given out for things besides big plays.

At some point who cares. "Hey Jim, here is 18 stickers to put on your helmet for holding the extra point against Illinois"

I think the practice is stupid.

It's not for you to enjoy

It's for the players to enjoy

A friend of mine who played D2 ball received one when he cleared the locker room with a fart.

We did it in high school. We'd go back and watch film the day after the game, stickers for sacks, ints, fumbles, etc.

Eta: we enjoyed it.

I get it. But some of the linemen have helmets full of stickers, Dalvin Cook has to have over a hundred. At some point they lose whatever meaning that they may have once had if you have no idea what most of them are for

We did it in high school also. It was different criteria for different positions. QB's-60%, over 100 yards, TDs, etc. All players got one if they were on the field for TD, a turnover on D, etc.

Our high school did it.

Most tackles, impact plays, TDs, etc. It's not like you got a sticker every game even if you had the most tackles. It was for standout performances.

100 yard rushing games, 15 yard runs, 20 yard catches, 10 yac, 250 yards passing, no sacks given up, one or more sacks, 7+ tackles, interception, holding opponent under 150 yards rushing, 40 yard fg.

I'm sure there are other criteria.

Tried to find that awesome ESPN commercial from the mid 90s where the Ohio State equipment manager explains how they give them. During the commercial he basically gives everyone one for anything and yells "BUCKEYE"! Every time

This is what Jim Tressel used at Ohio State. Urban adjusted it when he got there.

A lot of stuff. Some stuff not even football related. I don't think Obio State gives them out to for individual stats or accolades if the team lost the game. I know Arkansas doesn't.

So you could win three buckeye leaves in a single game without stepping on the field?

Damn, a dominant win with a defensive and ST TD you could get infinity stickers.

Thanks for posting that.

Urban is a lot more judicious with the number of stickers he gives out.

That's some rare fossil.
