$63M/yr for Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks! Trade away four young players on rookie contracts for literally nothing. FVV, Brooks, and Jalen Green in the starting lineup will no doubt be the worst shooting backcourt in the NBA.

Dillon Brooks got the best fricking agent in the NBA. If I’m Rich Paul, I’m sweating

Jalen Green- #2 pick
Alperen Sengun- #16 pick
Jabari Smith- #3 pick
Tari Eason- #17 pick
Amen Thompson- #4 pick
Cam Whitmore- #20 pick (projected #5)

This is the last 3 years not including the guys traded. They traded a #29 pick, #24 pick, and a 2nd round guy. Absolutely meaningless to their long term plan considering the list above. You don’t want 12 rookie contracts.

Also they drafted Brooks technically so might have always wanted him.

And they paid FVV because well they have ALL rookie contracts and like 100 mil cap space. So if you need to fill 2-3 roster spots and have unlimited money you can have fun.

They are essentially paying FVV extra money for him to be cool with being mediocre and having 0 playoff expectations for the next 3 years until they have to pay their actual stars.

They just hired an elite coach. They have above average talent. Udoka says they will play through sengun (Jokic 2.0) and have top 3 pick jabari smith to go along side top two pick Jalen Green and now amen Thompson and cam whitmor. Tari getting big minutes too, this team is primed for the playoffs. I think they're doing great

Whatever happened to that Rockets poster that was cocky as shite despite having an elementary understanding of the game of basketball? That dude was funny af, especially when Houston inevitably failed.

I would. But I guess they see it as filling holes and attempting to install vet leadership.

FVV makes sense. He can play either guard spot. I think Thompson will end up being a 3. So they had a need at PG. I believe they added Patty Mills too.

No doubt they are looking to make a splash and push the youth forward. If Brooks can turn it around, he can be a flippable future asset. I just don't like blocking young players with FA signings. Players don't get better sitting on the bench..

FVV is on a 2 year contract. It’s not hurting the team at all. And the young players they traded away blew arse, except for KJ Martin. But he’s been wanting out anyway.

Also, you need contracts of a decent size to be able to use in trades. You hurt your flexibility if your roster is almost all rookie contracts.

First off, there is a minimum payroll they teams have to reach. They can’t have all rookie contracts.

And no, young players don’t get better when everyone on the team is a young player. You need veterans leading the way. Nobody is going to be sitting on the bench.

You have to spend 90% of the cap

They just gave kpj 80 plus million over 4 years, surely the plan can’t be to bring him off the bench with that type of contract

Did this change?

It used to be if you didn't spend up to 90% you had to distribute that difference to your current roster. So if the cap was 140M, you had to spend 126M. If you only had 100M in salary, you had to give your existing players 26M.

That's a great year end bonus. I think the Sixers did this a couple of times during the process. But maybe the rules changed..

KPJ has a very enticing contract which will make him a more sought after trade piece. Worst case, they have a guy who is good for 20 every night. Once again, this team is in good hands with a lot of talent.
