Was Boxing Ever Organised?

Or was it always an "alphabet soup" of groups, federations, and commissions?
I ask this because the NFL goes crazy when a player is even hinted at being part of a domestic violence event. Floyd Mayweather has a 48-0 record versus his opponents and girl friends alike and there is no repercussion.

Yes, it was organized to prevent unified titles back when you only had the WBA and WBC. Those organizations wouldn't sanction championship bouts without the appropriate payoffs. They would foist bouts against mandatory challengers from within their organizations.

Organized crime grew the sport to the mecca it was, then tore it down just the same.

The WBA was the first organization founded in the US in the 1920s the WBC was the next the 1960s.

I think the best way to fix boxing is to get rid of a lot of these alphabet organizations. Having regional belts that helps get you up to fighting for the world title.
Transparency throughout the process would go a long way into fixing boxing. That an accountability and a logic review process on judging.
However none of those things will ever happen.

You show me how to control a wild fricking gypsy and I'll show you how to control an unhinged, pig-feeding gangster.

I'm thinking the same thing. I wonder if there would be more money in boxing as a whole if it were better run. But, I think fighters simply "want theirs".
