The Hall of Fame pitched a shutout, and not the type that’s celebrated.

No new members were elected to the Cooperstown shrine on Monday, when the Hall announced the results of the ballot conducted by the 16-member committee considering 10 candidates from the pre-integration era.

None of them received the 12 votes required for induction, with baseball pioneer Daniel “Doc’’ Adams – who played for the Knickerbocker Base Ball club in 1845 and helped establish shortstop as a position – coming closest with 10 votes. Bill Dahlen and Harry Stovey, both 19th-century players, each received 10 votes.

The Hall will announce on Jan. 6 the results of this year’s vote by eligible members of the Baseball Writers Association of America, with Ken Griffey Jr. widely expected to earn induction in his first year on the ballot. Fellow newcomer Trevor Hoffman is a strong candidate too.

Good. The fewer the better. Unfortunately, there are already some above average guys in the baseball Hall of Fame. Take Craig Biggio for example.

Biggio is mediocre but the king of mediocrity is Ryne Sandberg.

Put him on the Milwaukee Brewers and he doesn't sniff the hall. Lou Whitaker has better all around numbers than Ryne and isn't in the hall.

Sandberg is only one of two players to retire with the most HRs and the most gold gloves at his position

Yeah but Sandberg had 282 homers over 16 seasons. Additionally his batting average was .285. I think he was a very good player overall, evident by his defense and his 10 consecutive all-star appearances. A Hall of Famer though? I feel like people want him in the Hall and use his fielding position as an excuse for his shortcoming in terms of offensive skill.

frick those people.

Because of them the baseball Hall of Fame is losing all credibility. Bonds, Clemens, McGuire, Sosa, Rose, and Shoeless Joe Jackson not being in the Hall is a joke.
Voters leaving Greg Maddox and Randy Johnson off of their ballots.
One voter saying he refuses to vote for any player that played in the "steroid era" and still being allowed to vote after publicly saying that.

Dipshit also would only vote for Jack Morris who did play during the steroid era.

I agree. People nowadays don't know the difference between a really good player and a Hall of Fame player. This goes for the Football and Baseball HOF's. The HOF should be for the greatest of the great. You shouldn't have HOF'ers elected every year. Seems they just put players in for the sake of doing it.
