re: US "pay to play" sports system is really messed up

About 20 years ago my younger brother started playing soccer on a team with a kid who eventually became the youngest drafted in the mls, until freddie adu broke it by a couple months. Funding to get eddie johnson anything he needed was never an issue. Pretty sure us soccer named his club coach the national team coach for his age group, just to lure him back from football. I guess you just have to be good enough... or that damn poor.

Do you honestly think this happens only in youth soccer????

You do realize the basketball clinics for youth and HS kids costs, right? Soem charging big $ to be able to play with a former pro/pro

You're missing the point. The entry fees at the young ages of the sport are too high, so the pool for potential super starts who get free rides when they are in their teens gets cut down right off the jump
