With the students voting down the athletic fee increase, UNO athletics may not be able to survive with the iminent cuts to higher education across the state.

What are all of your thoughts on this situation?

My opinion: I think UNO's Chancellor, Tim Ryan, is a gutless coward that should resign from his position and stay away from all other positions of power! Newsflash, Tim, you were hired into a position of power, and paid accordingly, to make tough decisions. All he has done in this situation is pass the buck. He has not taken any leadership, and now the entire UNO community will suffer. He could have gone to the LSU board and proposed the athletic fee increase without the vote (which was done in 2001) and saved the department, but he doesn't want to take any responsibility for anything that happens. He just wants to avoid controversy at all costs. This is the worst type of person anyone can have in a leadership role--someone that hides and refuses to stand up! Anyway, I understand everyone is going through hard economic times right now, but for the leader of a university to turn over ANY department's existance over to 18-22 year old kids that have a difficult time analyzing long-term effects is truly dispicable. The students voted thinking only about the immediate impact to their wallet. I don't blame them, especially in these economic times. I blame the lack of leadership.

That falls squarely on the shoulders of you Ms. Ryan - you obviously do not have the testicular fortitude to be called "Mr."

I do, however, want to apologize to the ladies out there that I insulted by associating Tim Ryan with your gender.

Since you seem to be upset at the fact that Mr. Ryan left the decision to the students, would you have liked for him to show the leadership that you say he lacks and decided on his own to cut out the Athletic Department?

Honestly, YES! If, after his complete analysis, he decided that cutting athletics would be best for the university. I would feel much better about him if that was the case, but he just decided to turn over the continuance of an entire department over to students. I just think that a decision like this should be made by the chancellor.

I agree with you.

And, your answer surprised me.

Thanks for responding to it.

chipper,
just curious, do you agree with how it was handled? Or do you simply not care about this situation at all?

Well, I was hoping that I would be able to have some decent discussion on the topic. I know it is difficult to do on these blogs sometimes (see 2nd post on topic), but I was just trying to see what others thought about it.

Thank YOU for your genuine acknowledgment.

Not a problem. One reason for the lack of response is probably because it is the third time today that I have seen this topic posted, BUT, you had a unique angle to it. One that I shared.
