shields' shot is marketing in large part

he's a name, and GSP has dominated everybody else in the division, so they have to sell his next PPV

assuming he beats shields, he's going to have to move up. BJ did, silva did, and GSP will have to try out 185

You're right. What are they gonna do? Shields is on a long win streak, and Dana tends to give some guys that are on such, their shot, especially in this division, where there is GSP and many dangerous guys he's beaten already.

GSP, like Silva, is compared more against his own standard and dominance in terms of Lb for Lb status.

Eventually it will be what everyone wants to see.

They've hinted at it for the last two to three years as a future possibility.

How much reach would Anderson Silva have on GSP?

P.S. Just looked it up AS 77.6 vs GSP 76.0

I think its pretty obvious that the only solution is to bring back Nick Diaz to fight GSP

Diaz fought twice after this incident. I think he cut him because of failing drug test. I think

the aka head trainer came out and said Kos did crappy and didnt listen to anything they said or follow the gameplan at all. I'd imagine he was supposed to go for more takedowns or at least do something besides throw a shitty overhand right and then rearrange his shorts.

Diaz wasn't cut from UFC, he left for more money.. Dana usually has good things to say about Nick, so I think he'll be back sooner or later

Had Kos not broken his eye socket at the beginning of the fight, I think he would have done a lot of things differently. I think he was just hurting so bad and couldn't see shite and it threw him off. I'm not saying he would have beat GSP, but he would have atleast taken him down a few more times and fed him some GnP. I think his team underestimated GSPs standup waaaaay too much.

I agree. I've seen interviews where he has talked about Diaz, and he sounds like he has always been interested he is just waiting for Nick to mature a little bit first.

What was the game plan? He got out wrestled in his first match, which at the end of the day, Kos is a wrestler.

Then he gets beat worse standing up.

Freddie Roach..Freddie Roach..Freddie Roach..

GSP's stand-up has been improving the last two years, and looked markedly better the last few fights. Also, as you mention, with one eye the whole fight(that thing was closing in the 1st Rnd), and it hurting severely with each hit. GSP kept hitting it by design to keep that Kos right hand off him, and to close his vision once he saw it on the quick fade.

At the post fight press conference GSP said he only saw Roach a couple times, and that Zahabi and some Canadian boxing coach were the ones that designed his gameplan. Once GSP broke Kos' shite up in the first with that jab, Kos was just trying to stay away from contact. Javier Mendez or Bob Cook should have thrown in the fricking towel to avoid any permanent damage to Koscheck's eyesight, no matter how mad he would have gotten.

Your right, Joe Rogan called the broken orbital, and it looked such, with that circular puffiness so quickly.

Kos is too good a fighter, still young enough, makes too much, and has a few more chances left to be Champ one day..to risk a career ending injury.

His corner should've tossed the towel early, even between rounds when he notably winced at it's wiping.
