if espn would really do a piece on a weekly basis on the top 10 worst calls, I believe that some refs would be reluctant to throw the hanky sometimes out of the fear of being on this segment.

I would LOVE for this to happen.

ESPN is in bed with college football and the NFL so it won't ever happen.

You really think the fines and suspensions they don't care about...but a frickin ESPN piece will fix their issues?

I feel like it's damned if you do, damned if you don't. Human error will cause some bad calls and people will bitch. If they reviewed every call to make sure they got it right, then we'd have games that were 6 hours and people would bitch.

Sometimes NOT throwing the hanky is a terrible call.

I understand refs will make bad calls sometimes, it's just part of the sport.

Coaches make bad decisions, players make bad plays, refs are gonna make bad calls.

Humans make mistakes.

The only thing that bothers me is that refs seemingly pay no consequences for their mistakes. Coaches get fired, players get benched (or cut).

I know refs have their own internal review process but seems nothing ever comes from it.

Well they have unions...so it's more difficult. Remember when MLB umps tried to hijack baseball in the 90's?

During the most controversial games over the last 10 years...it seems like the refs are always suspended 1-game.

It must be in their CBA. It's a slap on the wrist. Even for egregious calls like UW vs. BYU, LSU vs. Auburn, Oklahoma vs. Oregon.
