I think he is probably in about the top 1/3 of quarterbacks in the NFL. The fact is though, that the guy has choked in almost every big game he has ever been in, and then he leads them to a comeback win in week 3 of the regular season against the Redskins, and ESPN acts like he is the greatest leader, and big game quarterback of all time.

You kidding? They were deemed the Top Contender in more than a few circles coming off of 6-10. If they go 8-8, ESPN will declare that Romo can cure leprosy with a touch, and that the NFL is considering shutting down, rather than having a 20 game long coronation that ends with the '72 Dolphins committing mass suicide.

How many big games has he been in where he is the biggest reason they lost? 2? How many were because of his QB play? 1?

Love him or hate him but Chris Sims finished a game with a ruptured spleen.

Seems like it is only considered a big game when the cowboys lose, never games they win.

Tony Romo Wikipedia Page

2006 Season
quote:

On January 6, 2007, the Dallas Cowboys traveled to Qwest Field to play the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC wild card playoff round. With the Cowboys down 21-20 and 1:19 left on the clock, Dallas attempted a 19-yard field goal. Romo botched the hold for the kicker by dropping the snap as he attempted to set it down. Romo then tried to run into the end zone for an impromptu touchdown, but was tackled at the one-yard line by Seattle defensive back Jordan Babineaux

2007 Season
quote:

In the Cowboys' January 13, 2008 Division playoff game against the New York Giants, Romo was unable to lead his team to a come-from-behind victory. On 4th down with less than half a minute and no timeouts left, Romo threw the ball into the endzone, but it was intercepted by Giants cornerback R. W. McQuarters, ensuring that the Cowboys were eliminated from the playoffs with a 21–17 loss.

2008 Season
quote:

In what became a de facto third playoff game for Romo shortly prior to its start, on December 28, 2008, Romo and the Cowboys failed to compete against the Philadelphia Eagles in a 44–6 loss.[18] Romo committed three turnovers in the game and went 21/39 for 183 yards and no touchdowns.[19] The loss dropped Romo's combined record in December to 5–8 and again raised questions concerning Romo's performance in games of consequence

2009 Season

quote:

Romo had a 104.9 passer rating in a 34-14 win of the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the playoffs, earning the first play-off win in 13 years for the Dallas Cowboys, and his own first career post-season win.

quote:

However the following week in the NFC divisional rounds against the number two seed Minnesota Vikings, Romo had three fumbles (losing two), an interception and was sacked six times in the 34-3 loss.

I would say these were his biggest games

Yep. I'd add the Eagles game in the last week of the 09 season too. Determined who won the division.

Yes,he stunk that day!!

They could have had Brees and Brady rotating snaps and would have been a worse result...he ran for his life that day!

So basically, calling Romo a choker is one of the most overstated things in all of sports!Cowboy haters just like to pile on cause they don't have enough intelligence to actually pay attention and think for themselves...and I'm not a Cowboys fan!! He is a good QB, top 8 easily!!

I like Romo, and I think he's a good QB. However, I HATE the manner in which the media hypes and over rates him.

I don't think I'm alone in this.

Really? I mean, even the biggest Cowboy fan would be hard pressed to put him 8th, easily.

Brady, Manning, Roethlesburger, Brees, Rivers, Vick, and Rodgers are all clearly better quarterbacks who have played at levels Romo has never approached-- and that's even before beginning to scratch the surface of quarterbacks who have far more significant career accomplishments than Tony Romo.

Realistically, he's somewhere between 9 and 14 in the league. I don't think he's 14, but he's not 9 in my mind either.

I actually said earlier that I thought he was in the top 1/3 of starting quarterbacks in the league. The whole point is I don't think he is an elite quarterback, like ESPN is trying to act like, when it comes to that point in the game, you expect the elite quarterbacks to make the plays (Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Brees). I don't expect that from Romo like I do the others.

Honestly, I would only take Brees,Manning,Brady and Rodgers over him...Rivers is debatable! Big Ben has won some big games, but otherwise is mediocre to me! Vick? Please! Talk about overhyped!?

The most recent of anything is always going to be the best ever when it comes to ESPN.

Romo deserves all of the credit he is getting and more for his performances over the last two weeks, considering all the shite he gets for the smallest wrongdoing.

Really? That's just mind boggling.

At least Vick has taken a team to the NFC title game, won on the road in the playoffs, and has changed the NFL landscape wherever he has gone.

Rivers has won more playoff games, more regular season games, and has one of the truly tough guy performances in NFL history in a huge game under his belt.

Roethlesburger has two Super Bowl rings, a better career record, and 10 times as many playoff wins.

The idea that Romo is in their classes is beyond silly.
