Tim Duncan vs. Dirk Nowitzki

I'm having a debate with my roommate(Mavs fan) who is telling me Dirk is the better all time player than Tim Duncan and I am arguing Tim Duncan is one of the best big men in NBA history. Please help me out and tell me who is right.

I am one of the biggest Dirk fans, and I'll even admit that Duncan is the better all-time player. If we are looking at just best scorer? I would give that to Dirk, but Duncan is the better player

It's closer than most would think. Duncan has a season advantage of Dirk, but Dirk is 2k points ahead. However, Duncan has double Dirk's blocks. Dirk has 100 more steals. Duncan has about 800 more assists. Duncan has about 4000 more rebounds. Dirk is the better FT shooter by over 20%. Same with 3pt %. Overall FG% goes to Duncan by 3%.
Overall Duncan is the better player, but Dirk is definitely the better scorer of the two.

Dirk is the best shooting 7 footer in history, that doesn't make him a better player than Duncan though.

It MIGHT be the fact that Dirk has made 1,300 3 pointers while Duncan has made less than 30.

Duncan has had the better career, which is not a knock on Dirk since Duncan is probably one of the 10 best players ever by any calculation.
