So what has Tiger done to make golf 'better'? Lengthened courses to where a normal par 3 is 250 yards, slowed down the pace because the courses are so long, etc. I don't think he has made golf better, just richer.

Well you answered your own question then just completely pretended like it wasn't an acceptable answer..
But another reason is he is one of the greatest golfers of all time, if not the greatest. So when he is playing and in the hunt, it is more exciting. This isn't exclusive to Tiger. Phil makes the game better. McIlroy makes the game better. When great players who have accomplished great things are playing, the game is just better.
This isn't even exclusive to golf. LeBron and Durant make basketball better. Manning makes football better. Etc.

Making purses bigger doesn't equate to making golf better. bringing corporate America to the golf game doesn't make golf better. having local courses with 250 yard par 3's doesn't make golf better. i will admit that he is the 2nd best golfer in the world of all time. golf was great before him and will be great after him. personally i grew tired of watching him play every single shot even when he wasn't anywhere near the lead. hell, even today, someone else wins a tourney, but tiger grabs the headline because of WDing. It is what it is.

I think he took something.
Nobody swings like that and recovers naturally after a tournament.
And to do it for years the way he did makes it even more obvious.
