Just started watching it, and just finished Ep 1.

Just wondering what you guys thought of the docuseries. I'm a big Tiger fan. I know of some of the issues he had with his dad and his childhood/life... but this doc pretty much puts everything on the table. It's a bit of a shock media to make everything seem worse than it actually was I think.

It was interesting hearing from his real life friends from his early life.

I have some issues with some of the content being overblown bs. It does dig deep into some of the things we heard about.. like the affairs and his dad.

I thought it was pretty one sided and telling that Tiger himself was not a part of it.

What were the issues b/w him and his dad?

Haven't watched it since it first came out but remember thinking it was pretty good for the most part. I do remember thinking I wish it would have had more parts and covered more of his on-course stuff than being so heavily focused on his personal life. Like they spend a ton of time in the 3 hour doc showing the downfall in his personal life and then spend like 5 minutes on his rise back, culminating in the Masters win. Obviously Tiger not participating had some effect, but the Shaq series on HBO was much better IMO

Biggest takeaway I got from that documentary was that Tiger had zero shot at a normal childhood. Like, none. For instance, the stuff you didn't see when he was putting on that show at 3 or so. He wanted nothing to do with that but they forced him. Just seemed really sad to me.

I think the point of the documentary was that Earl had a camper parked at the golf course where he gave private lessons

His time served in combat as a Green Beret/Special Forces pales in comparison to his extra-marital sexcapades

Tiger, however, achieved more on the golf course than anything he ever did outside of his marriage

And I think that's a fair summary of the documentary

The mindfrick and pressure of turning your son into a Ghandi figure for the world. That was his dad's plan all along.

Also, his dad running around on his mom pretty much in front of him with no remorse his whole life. For example, his dad used to take women to a Winnebago parked next to the course while Tiger practiced.

The doc pushed hard on the fact that both Tiger and his dad viewed each other as best friends rather than father/son.

Of course Tiger thought the world of his dad and loved him very much, but it seems like his father failed being a dad in some aspects. And pretty hard fails.

Another interesting thing the documentary hits on a lot is the fact that Tiger never liked nor was comfortable with the fame.

I train BJJ and our main school is in San Diego. I usually go out there about every other year to roll with the guys at the mothership. As you can imagine with Coronado being so close and San Diego in general being such a cool place to retire for that community, we have several former SEAL's that train and sometimes a few active guys will bounce in. It seems Tiger had a SEAL fetish back in the late 2000's. I mean the guy had access to shite I was told no regular civilian has seen and got to play with lots of their toys and go through simulations that only active Team guys get to run through.

Tiger was privy to a few platoon work-ups and the dude even made several jumps with them. They said he was a legit skydiver but honestly awkward as hell in social settings and just trying to fit in. Like a social introvert. These guys on the mat talk non stop shite and they really didn't know how to interact with Tiger.

Spot on. It was just always he and Earl. The house was always super quiet. No friends over to play ever. I came away from the documentary feeling sorry for him and wondering if he had a choice would he have even chose that life for himself.

There is a segment in Part 2 about the masters. There is a popular guy narrating that part when they are showing the meltdowns at amen corner that I thought was awesome. Something along the lines of "There are guys on the tour that said they wanted to go up against Tiger in the final round of a major......(best part) "THE frick YOU DO, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE GETTING YOURSELF IN TO." lol i loved that part. He says it just as the guys are going into the drink on #12 at Augusta. As Tiger is staring at the green behind them.

David Duval was the first one to say that on the air.

My favorite part of the HBO documentary was the last 5 seconds of part 1. Rachel Uchtel sat down for an interview and said “so what do you want to talk about?” That got me excited for part 2.

Thought it was a cool way to set up the next episode.

I stopped after the high school girlfriend. That was some grimy shite putting her on.

I thought they used her really well to define what Tiger's social life was like growing up.

A poster already said this..

I think she explained well how reclusive Tiger's parents required him to be. And then his parents forced him to never see her again.

Thought that was interesting.

Update...

In the middle of episode 2 and thinking about calling it quits.

Feels more like a National Enquirer documentary than an HBO documentary. Even if he did everything they said, it is done in such a cringy way. Starting to annoy me.

Opened my eyes to how good National Enquirer is with their investigation. They followed and videoed him hooking up with a regular of his in a parking lot. I had no idea.
