Thoughts on Yankees releasing ARod?

As a Yankees fan I am content with the decision but also think it's a great move to keep him as an instructor and a special advisor.

Probably got caught on roids again and that's why he hasn't played (besides being awful). MLB probably told him to retire and it wouldn't come out.

no tears for ARod.....will be unconditionally released on Friday, then signed to a 1 year "special instructor" contract....He's getting his dough

I haven't really followed this, but why is he being released now as opposed to just letting him finish the year? He's only 4 homers away from 700
