NC State being ranked makes our game against them Thursday night huge

Cool story. Now they say USC is #14. They didn't get credit for beating overrated teams. They're probably still too high at #11. No big deal.

Going to be an intriguing game. Not sure who wins.

Oregon lost their QB and RB. Wazzu should win easily.

but USC is only an overrated team, according to the polls, because they lost. if USC won, would they be ranked 11th? no. they would be ranked 4th or 5th. all because they were arbitrarily given a higher ranking than washington state at the start of the year

It isn't arbitrary. They don't pull names out of a hat and say, cool, Alabama is #1 again.

Also, don't pretend that they are only overrated because they lost. They played Western Michigan and Cal tight, and let Texas take them to 2OT while making their defense look like Alabama's. Meanwhile, Washington State was busy beating no one. They're right where they should be, or maybe a little higher. Deal with it.

it 100% is arbitrary. these early in the year rankings are completely based on what people think might happen before the year even starts. we have no idea how USC was going to look this year, but they were ranked high because of assumptions being made. we had no idea how ohio state was going to look, but they were ranked high because of assumptions. we shouldnt have a preseason poll. we shouldnt have a poll before october because these polls do influence the rankings down the road

and yet the poll still had them at #5 coming into the game. the poll didnt care about them being overrated until they lost. thats stupid

given how this early portion of the year has gone, they should at least be higher than ohio state and wisconsin

You don't know what this word means.

Sure. They were considered the #5 team in the country coming into the game. Not hard stuff.

No they shouldn't. The Pac-12 is last in line. They'll sit exactly where they belong until they show that something should change.

ok fine.
the polls are based off faulty logic

EXACTLY!!! thats the point. you were talking about how overrated USC has been this year and how clear it is to everyone. but they were still ranked in the top 5 until they lost. all because that was the spot they were given before the year even started and before we were given a chance to actually see this USC team play

this makes no sense given how the polls show what the best teams are up to the current point in the year. washington state objectively has a better resume than some schools ranked ahead of them. they are only behind them because those schools were given a higher ranking to start the year

I'd say that it's more likely based off analysis you simply don't like.

Not exactly. You're whining because Washington State is ranked behind other teams that you think are ranked too high.

Yes it does. The Pac-12 is the weakest conference, and has been for some time. As long as there are rankings, the Pac-12 belongs lower than other conferences.

and you are both trying to say that preseason polls make sense, but washington states win over USC shouldnt put them in top 10 because USC was clearly overrated based on their performance during the year

and what does that have anything to do with what washington state has done up to this point in the season?

Both are correct.

A lot. If they continue to win, they'll rise. As of right now, they have one decent win in who knows how long. Hell, a year ago they were busy losing to FCS teams. No need to overreact to a win that may or may not turn out to be solid.

You happen to check the Sagarin rankings? I recommend it if you want to have a quality melt.

as compared to some teams ahead of them who have no decent wins

what does this have to do with the AP poll?

My bad....just read Herbert has a broken collarbone.

Royce was a loss but they have other backs. QB gone means the season for Taggart and Oregon just got interesting. Hopefully Braxton can hold his own a little for their sake.

The 2 QB's that transferred is much bigger news now.

Two AAC teams in the top 25. Don't forget UCF went 0-12 two years ago. Frost has done an amazing job getting that program back to Group of 5 elite

Incorrect. Some teams ahead of them consistently win championships and beat top teams.

Quite a bit, in the context of our discussion. Did you check it out?

No, they aren't.

USC is not a top 5 team and their play has shown this, but they are a top 5 team because that was the ranking they had in the preseason. they arent a top 5 team but they are. yea, that isnt contradictory

and what does that have to do with what has happened through the first five weeks of this year?

it quite literally has nothing to do with anything in the discussion. im not talking about sargarin. im talking about the AP poll. USC was a top 5 team in the AP poll, washington state beats them and they dont get as much credit as USC would have if they won. all because they werent ranked as high as USC in a preseason poll that you have said multiple times overrated USC

Yeah, they lost them in the 1st quarter and still rolled Cal.
