quote:

“Two days later, I got cut (laughs). Dreams shattered, sent home with seven bucks in my pocket. I was like, ‘Wait no, I gotta play in the NFL eventually. Those are my big goals. That’s my dream.’ You realize that playing in the NFL was the best thing that never happened because it got me here.

Pretty good message for everyone but reminds me of hard knocks.

Great guy. He always has a positive message and isn't annoying or fake about it.

It was the best thing that happened to HIM. He is one in a billion. It's amazing the success he has had but it isn't like that for 98% of athletes cut by the NFL.

Agreed. It's a rare exception and the but the message makes people think it's a common occurrence. I can't imagine how successful Michael Jordan be if he didn't make it to the NBA.

The Rock of course had family connections to wrestling. Not sure how it would have turned out if he was simply a former Miami football player. Unlikely he gains the traction he did, though he certainly earned his own worth.

I think it's how the message was presented. "I'm now successful now because I failed in the past". So the message was failing leads to success which is partially correct. But the message failed to add in hard work, passion, positive attitude, a little luck. Rock also have something that most people don't. Rock has good genes, looks, charisma. That goes a long way in life especially in entertainment.

But to say "if I can do this, anyone can" is not accurate or "I'm now succeeding at xyz because I failed at abc" is not taking other factors into account. If Rock has the face of Sam Cassell would he be making movies and telling us this? Probably not. But then Rock can't come out and say "my great looks is a big part of why I'm in a lot of movies". Now he can't say that because it will rub people the wrong way. But it's still true.

Rock has a little politics in him and knows what to say and what not to say. I'm sure it's another reason he made it this far.
