They need to let any close play that results in a touchdown from a turnover continue. Do not blow the whistle, and if you do then let the TD count upon review. The ball going back to the spot is crap.

How do they know it will result in a touchdown at the time it's turned over?

That's why they need to let the play finish and not blow the whistle.

A fumble where a linebacker scoops it up and runs it for a touchdown. But wait oops, the ref blew it dead ruling the runner down. Replay shows it was a fumble giving the defense the ball at the 30 yard line(spot of the clear recovery) instead on the touchdown.

He makes a fair point, but I don't know how it would ever be feasible to let every near turnover continue without a whistle blown. It would lengthen an already lengthy game.

Say a RB fumbles before he is down and the Ref blows the whistle. A defender had picked the ball up and scored. The play is reviewed and over turned but the TD does not count because whistle blew. Instead it is spotted where fumble occured.

So the refs should wait an extra 4 to 5 seconds to blow the whistle on every play just to ensure there isn't an unseen fumble? I can't see any negatives of this at all.

I gotcha.

1. Offense would get screwed in this situation. If they assumed turnover and let every potential turnover play out to the end, defense would get the ball more often than not because of the "indisputable video evidence" rule.

2. Games would take forever. You think there are a lot of commercial breaks now? Think about reviewing every potential turnover.

If the refs would just not make any mistakes, ever, everything would be fine.

its about whistle blowing the play dead without really seeing what is going on.

"inadvertent whistle" being my least favorite.

not blowing the whistle means it going to be rough out there a few more seconds before it is clear.
