I sorta understand their concern, but they will be roasted in the court of public opinion, and deservedly so.

When I first heard he was going to do that, I told my FIL it was probably a violation of some NCAA rule. Great gesture and should be allowed by the NCAA.

Its not ridiculous for a kid to be able to give his jersey to charity to assist victims of a flood.

If he does it and the proceeds go to someone else, how the fvck is he benefiting?

This is like the NCAA outlawing anyone auctioning a jersey. Fournette isn't getting the money so who cares?

Unless he would make anything off of it its absurd to not allow this.

Lsu has auctioned off jerseys before. I assume it just has to be through the school. And likely all jerseys and not just the #7.

We'll get them auctioned off and the money to SC.

However they'll likely be required to remove the name.

I have a purple game worn jersey from about 10 years ago that had the name removed.

I don't see how they can stop him. It's not like he owns the jersey. LSU can do what they want with it

The NCAA is getting sued by former players over likeness rights and finances - this would eventually get wrapped up in the legal stuff rather than just being a solid nice gesture. NCAA is likely doing LF, LSU, and the people suing the organization a big favor.

If I'm the NCAA I'll allow it. They were already losing the PR battle before today and this doesn't help their cause.

They could easily have said although Leonard has no right to auction off the shirt without violating rules , we will auction the jersey off for him because we believe it's the right thing to do for the people of South Carolina.
