You know the story by now: The Steelers drafted Roethlisberger at No. 11 and are still reaping the benefits. Two Super Bowls later, Roethlisberger, 34, is widely considered a top-three-to-five quarterback in today's NFL. Roethlisberger is 20-2 against the Browns, but that's not the worst of it. Roethlisberger has 5,323 career passing yards against Cleveland. Of the Browns' 20 quarterbacks since that draft, Derek Anderson is the only one to surpass that yardage total in a Browns jersey.

Browns really shouldn't pass on a QB w/ 2 pick, QB's are too cheap and the rewards are too great for a franchise if you strike gold.

The Browns are literally the dumbest organization of all time.

Can't believe they drafted Manziel

Browns always take another position first and a QB second. Time to change that strategy.

It's easy to look back at it like that, but who knows if he would be the same player if Cleveland would've drafted him?

There are just some teams in sports that I think will ruin you and Cleveland appears to be one of them.

I'm not going to assume that Roethlisberger would be anything special with the Browns. Hell I'm not going to assume that any QB would be anything special there. Place is a graveyard

Ben was probably the worst starter on their first super bowl team. He's become very good and capable of leading a franchise but his career would not have projected the same with a shitty team.

it does show you 2 organizations that are run polar opposite.

One had the foresight to say, we like Maddox but he's older and this guy could be a franchise QB. The other decided to see if they could get by with Jeff Garcia.

By who?

Top 5 is reasonable, especially with Manning retired now. Top 3 would be an objectively horrible opinion

In no particular order:

Tom Brady
Drew Brees
Aaron Rodgers
Cam Newton
Russell Wilson

I'll give you the top 3. Disagree on Cam Newton. Think Roeth and Wilson are 4a and 4b.

I think Ben is better than Brees today. 2 or 3 years ago no, but I think Ben is the better QB now. I think he is 3rd, Cam is 4th and Brees is 5th.

If I had to rank them right now, at this very moment, Ben is not top 5. He's only 34 but he's been hit hard and injured often. I hate Cam but he's coming off his best season despite having no real WR. Give Ben that same WR corps and see what he'd do. And RW has shown what he's capable of already, with plenty of room to grow.

he was a 22nd pick and was projected as a top 10 pick. Really don't see what's so crazy about that

Well remember that Maddox had two starting seasons at this point and those seasons included 16 and 17 INTs respectively. Jeff Garcia on the other hand looked pretty good coming off his years with the 49ers.

It does go to show how much small school prospects can get overlooked and how current expectations lead to poor decisions regarding the future. At least it appears that the small school bias has dissipated a bit with Flacco and now Wentz being considered high picks.

I am fighting my innate Saints bias here but this is a untenable assertion.
