saw this coming. Nobody knows who Lonzo Ball is. His dad reminds me of the shysters that used to hang around AAU all star games.

Big Baller Brand is a terrible name for brand

I don't. Lonzo is really good at basketball. He appears to be a good kid, but his dad just will not get out of his way.

Does anyone know who Lonzo's agent is? I wonder if it's his dad, or someone in their circle. I can't imagine someone enjoying having Lavar in the way while trying to negotiate deals.

True hustle, yes I can respect that. But this dude is actively sabotaging his son's endorsement deals. I really can't believe Lonzo is allowing it.

I just like how he wants a package $1B deal for all the other kids who might not even make the NBA + he wants to sign it now when it would end eligibility to all the others.....quite the businessman lavar is

you really think that arrogant, money-grubbing a-hole would let that money go outside of his grasp?

his agent is some guy who "represents their brand"

quote:

NBA agent Harrison Gaines, as well as other attorneys and a brand director, will be part of the team representing UCLA guard and projected NBA lottery pick Lonzo Ball, said Ball’s father, LaVar.

Gaines, a 27-year-old attorney who was certified by the National Basketball Players Association last year, has his own firm, Slash Sports, but will represent Ball out of the family’s company, Ball Sports Group.

so they own a company that hired the agent to represent the company and Lonzo

Well if I were in this position, my dad wouldn't be trying to get his piece of the pie. He's a good enough father to know that this was my career, and my success. Not a gateway to his.

it is sad bc he probably would've at least gotten $100m deal from someone now its back to the drawing board and selling $39 big baller shirts in the meantime

That deal is still there. Only risk is if Lonzo ends up flopping badly in his rookie year.

They hired a 27 yr old attorney yeah, this is going swimmingly.

These people are fools.

Maybe.

But assuming it is, Lonzo will have to break from the family start-up t-shirt empire to sign that deal.

When I think of a Facebook shoe mixed with Lavar's renderings, I can just see one of the greatest products of all time in my head.

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the board room after Lavar left and the execs were discussing the deal.

No but his son is an adult legally, and I thought maybe he'd want his own agent.

So this isn't the least bit surprising.

Say there is a .5% chance the brand grows into something. If he retains 5% for his legal services, it's a worthy deal for the attorney because all he is losing is his time.

Which I'm going to assume wasn't worth much at 27 anyway.

The only person who stands to lose something is Lonzo.
