I like it.

So now we know who you are. Stupid article.

What part do you disagree with?
Posted on 7/18/13 at 10:46 am to The White Lobster
All but the parts where it says he sucks and is the worst defender.

I dont understand how you can argue against statistics and logic.

Very easy. Give me a contact hitter who can hit with runners in scoring position and go the opposite way.

You've been traded to the DAT for a PTBNL.
Report there to find out your assignment.

Dan would be gone if he didn't have such a large contract. Nobody wants him.
And by the way, how does a baseball player not know his eyes are bad?

Like the article says, we get more out of Dan than any other second baseball we could acquire. The phillies aren't trading us utley

Other teams aren't stupid.
I would like him if he could just get close to his Marlin days.

Well, that's just not going to happen. I think most people expected him to go downhill quickly before his contract was up, but not until next year or the year after.
Regardless, he's probably going to hit ~30 HRs and he still gets on base at a decent rate. Is it frustrating that we are paying him 13 million when he is worth half that? Definitely. It could be a lot worse though. He could have lost all of his power in addition to his ability to make consistent contact.

Interesting article. I like Dan, but I think it's a stretch to say he's been worth his contract.

Sounds like you want what Braves TV says Prado is

Very few free agents are "worth" their contracts in the eyes of the fan.
Fans rarely like new players because they have no built up credit and normally have high expectations.
How many guys have struggled in their first year with a new team? Pujols, Hamilton, Dunn, etc. All the pressure has to be tough on the players.
Add in the fact that free agent players are likely to be the highest paid players on a team because they were free agents instead of team control guys and the fact that free agents are often signed to fill in holes instead of be stars, and it's easy to understand why fans get upset

Career batting average is 14 points lower with runners in scoring position compared to bases empty and 145 points lower when he hits the ball the other way compared to pulling the ball. (Not to mention that he's also been one of the worst offensive players in baseball this year)

The value of Dan Uggla

Dan Uggla is not a bargain, but he's not an albatross, either.
I can buy that. Problem is, Uggla is just another one of too many hackers in the Braves lineup, sans Freeman & B-Mac...Braves have almost zero chance in a short playoff series against other teams top pitchers with that hacker starting lineup they have.
Heyward is a fricking overrated joke, and BJ "The Mistake" Upton is about as useful to the Braves as Mike "Mr. Disabled List" Hampton was.
Fredi is a Bobby clone and will do well enough in the regular season, but will flounder in the playoffs...Same ole same ole Braves.

If you are talking about Prado, you just used another stupid stat. Prado tried and was good at moving a runner to third by grounding out to the right side. Real baseball. He did that a lot. That counts against your average. Go ahead, I am sure you will bring me another stupid stat.
Opposite field average.

Everyone hits worse against good pitchers. I don't buy the hackers hit considerably worse against playoff caliber pitchers narrative personally.
Heyward is 23. People who thought he'd be Willie Mays at his prime by now are disappointed, sure. He's an excellent baseball player though.
BJ has a five year contract. It's way too early to call him a bust.
