Today's Probables
ATL : Julio
GWI: Jenkins
GWI: Gant
CAR: Franco
ROM: Fried

In other news we made a trade yesterday. We acquire Brian Matusz and the 76th pick in the draft for Brandon Barker and Trevor Belicek.
We then Designated Matusz for assignment. We picked up the remaining 3 mill and change on Matusz's deal. Basically, we bought a draft pick. Perhaps more importantly than the pick itself is the pool money (800,000) we acquired, can help us sign someone who slides. We now have 5 picks in the top 80. #3, 40, 44, 76, 80.

Buying draft picks is the way this team should be approaching things. Can't wait to underpay a college bat at 3 then spread the surplus cash out on some HS studs.

Exploiting every avenue and loophole they can find, as they should be.

The two players they traded were 16th round picks. Turning those into a second is a great deal.

I agree. Absolutely no downside to this.

Coppy pretty much said that we were taking a HS kid on the Jonah Keri Podcast. Will be Groome if there.

I get why they might take Pint, but I've seen Groome throw and he is going to be special. I'm definitely interested to see how he develops

Groome has make up issues. Which always has been a red flag for the Braves

Interesting. I keep meaning to listen to that podcast but haven't gotten around to it. During a twitter Q&A a few months back he said they'd be looking at college bats. Just figured they'd try to get someone under slot there to use the $ on the sandwich picks.

Seems to be conflicting info on that. I've seen guys like Keith Law say the opposite.

I'm fine with Pint, Groome or the two college OFs. I want no part of Puk.

I don't know what law said. But with Snyder and Clark a premium has always been placed on make up. Pint has the make up, groome doesn't

3. Atlanta Braves
Jason Groome, LHP
Barnegat (New Jersey) High School

Atlanta could take a strong college position player here, such as Ray, and then resume its usual, high-upside high school strategy in the sandwich round. That said, the Braves have loved Groome's upside since the fall, and I think they'd feel they were getting the draft's top talent.

I did find it interesting that the Braves had Fried as the number one player on their board when he came out.

Steve: If Lewis is gone before pick 3, you believe that Braves would take Groome. Do you prefer Groome to Pint? Why? Others have said Braves would lean more toward Pint.

Klaw: I don’t know who “others” are or why they’d say that because I don’t think that’s true at all. Groome’s the better prospect and Atlanta prefers him.
