i remember when the 5A final could have potentially been Slidell vs. Fontainebleau
and that was back when the Northshore district was considered "weak"
i think i'll rank the 5A districts
1. 9-5A everyone in this district has done something recently, either winning state, making the semis, going 10-0, or having Leonard Fournette
2. 1-5A nice add with Evangel back in along with other contenders. adding Calvary would not make yall number 1 however.
3. 3-5A this is the Acadiana, Barbe, and Sulphur show
4. 2-5A sorry West Monroe, but Alexandria and Natchitoches drag yall down. Ruston and Ouachita have seen better days as well
5. 7-5A this is the River show, overshadowing the Bayou schools even if one occasionally beats them. Coach Salt will do that to people
6. 6-5A just balanced competition all around the Northshore. a lot of different teams have made noise
7. 5-5A more talent than 4-5A, but results might be the same
8. 4-5A we should call this the I-12 district, but it's nothing special
9. 8-5A we think John Ehret might be good, and we haven't seen Landry Walker in 5A yet. that's about it. everyone else needs to show me something, particularly West Jeff
other strong districts are 9-4A and 9-2A

3-5A is easily the best in 5A

got to take into account the whole district, not just the top teams...

You name another district that has had 4 different teams play in the state championship in the last 9 years. Or has had a team in the Dome for the last 5 years. Really, 3-5A has been the best, and its not even close. Acadiana has more state titles the last 5 years than district titles.

well yeah but the bottom half of your district absolutely won't be threats this season... plus you lost Carencro

Well the bottom half of everyone's district really doesn't do very well. That's why they're in the bottom half. Look if you're talking about only this year, with the addition of JC, maybe so. They haven't played a game yet, for all I know Sam Houston could win 5A. But to put things in perspective, the year before the split, Rummel won 5A. They were 1 of only 2 teams that even made the playoffs from 9-5A. 2. 3-5A had 5 teams make the playoffs. Only 2 teams making the playoffs doesn't exactly look good for a district with as many teams as they have. And it wasn't THAT long ago.

Minden will surprise people in 4A. Their district isn't all that tough, but they have some true talent on the roster and a great head coach in Spencer Heard. They'll be better than Haynesville and Airline, two North LA teams who actually made the list.

I don't doubt that. Half of their team were sophomores last year and they were seeded 12th in 4-A. Pretty impressive considering the amount of youth.

That year it was Rummel, Jesuit, Brother Martin, West Jeff, and Chalmette... pretty sure Jesuit and West Jeff made it. If you're looking for Catholic League teams 3 of them were 4a, who all made it and Holy Cross and St. Aug made deep runs

Ok so I looked and they had 3 teams as West Jefferson, who was in district with Rummel and Jesuit, also made it. Brother Martin and Chalmette didn't make the playoffs. I forgot they split the district up, but with that being said, 3-5A has also had teams come and go and yet that doesn't diminish what they did while they were in the district. Again, they may be better overall this year but they weren't a better district overall the last 10 years. We've had 6 different teams in the 5-A semifinals in 3-5A just in the last 10 years (Barbe,Acadiana,Carencro,STM,Sulphur, and Westgate). 3 of those teams have gone down in classification. But what really sets it apart is this was done before the split. The split waters down everyone's accomplishments unfortunately.
Here is the link to the playoffs bracket, just go to 2102-2013

I don't think we'll ever see a run like 2-4A/5A with Neville, Ruston, Ouachita, Bastrop, and West Monroe. Until it was disassembled, the district had a team in the title game some absurd amount like 23 of 25 years.

Zero titles and you put them top 2 in the state? Bit lofty

After seeing Zachary play last year, they are pretty damn good. I think they return a lot of their players as well.
Acadiana loses 9 offensive starters from last year and they're number 3. That's a pick based solely on last year. I think Zachary is definitely deserving of it this year. They lost 2 games last year by 9 points total. If not top two definitely top five. I don't think Acadiana should be in the top ten based solely on only having 7 returning starters back. There's a lot of youth on the team this year.

What do past titles have to do with the quality of the team this year?

Anyone else saw their schedule?
8/28 St. Paul Jamboree
9/4 University High
9/12 Covington
9/18 Wayne County- Mississippi
9/26 Don Bosco Prep- New Jersey
10/3 Archbishop Shaw
10/9 Holy Cross
10/17 Jesuit
10/24 Brother Martin
10/31 John Curtis
11/7 St. Augustine
Roth definitely is not afraid to schedule competition this year.
If they roll through that undefeated they might be national champs.
