It stings to be that guy today.

There were 2 extremely important events that at the times, were very insignificant, that if they didn't happen, we don't have a triple crown winner today.

1. Back in 2008, Zayat bought a yearling from the yearling sale for 290k and named it pioneerof the nile. He had derby aspirations for the horse and the horse had some talent. He sent the horse to hall of fame trainer bill mott who looked at him and looked at his pedigree, by empire maker out of a lord at war mare which.. honestly is pretty turfy lol.. and said okay this is a turf horse. He race him in 2YO races at saratoga on the turf. but zayat wanted a derby horse and mott didn't think he was a deryb horse so he sent him to bob baffert on the other side of the country in california and he wins the cash call futurity for 2YOs on the dirt. now he's a dirt horse

IF Zayat would have listened to mott, Pioneerof the nils is never a dirt horse, he never goes to stud and he doesn't bred American Pharaoh

2. Last year, Bob Baffert knew he had something serious. He wanted so so so so so so so bad to run him in the Breeders Cup Juvenile but he wasn't 10000% right. He was like 75% right and probably would have still won the race, but bob baffert had the foresight to hold out and prep him for the triple crown
