It's an agreement made between all the Texas schools in the Big 12 in the offseason. It's not something Texas just decided to do. Tech will also be charging opponents' bands. But please feel free to be outraged.
Oh and Texas has the largest traveling band of the 4 and will be paying the most of the 4. I'm not even a Texas fan but this is some dumb shite to get upset about.

Yeah I missed the conference call so I don't know why. I do know Steve Patterson didn't wake up one day and say "frick it, we're charging the bands now".

Steve Patterson is recklessly incompetent and a genuinely bad guy. No one hopes more than me that he isn't around to replace his mistake (Charlie Strong). However, like most discussion points from an aggie, this concern is light years away from being tethered to reality.

It's not even that complicated.
Home team sells X number of tickets to Away team. Away team gets to allocate those seats to whomever they like. They will sell then back their own fans and allocate some to the band.
