so who has he beat since fedor doesnt fight top competition but overeem does ?
Posted on 2/11/11 at 11:09 am to ChalmetteChampion
Overeem has only had one fight in SF since becoming champ. He absolutely destroyed Bret Rodgers. Otherwise, all his fights have been overseas, mostly K-1 where he continues to dominate.

I was starting to think I was the only one who could see the future.

he has beaten the top kickboxers in the world. He dominated Rogers who was Fedors last win. The only way you'll beat this guy is if you somehow get him on his back, but the dude is so strong its going to be a tough task for anyone to get him on his back. He also just won a fight in Dream in about 30 seconds.

So the Overeem brothers could possibly fight each other??
And the other 1st round match-ups aren't until April, so the 2nd round wouldn't be until this summer at the earliest.

i know who he's beaten but how can you say fedor hasnt fought anyone in years when he hasnt either ...
Posted on 2/11/11 at 11:24 am to ChalmetteChampion
Because Reem has been active and has been beating the top kick boxers in the world.
It is fair to critisize him some for not defending his SF title more than once though.

Rumored he was ducking fighting in america for awhile because he'd probably fail drug tests.

Yeah. I know. Probably true also. He has probably gotten his timing down on passing the tests now though. Do not think there is much doubt Reem is juiced up pretty big.

I'm actually pretty interested in watch V.Overeem vs Sefo.
Should be a good fight. Valentijn hasn't been relevant in years and Sefo is trying to prove over-the-hill kickboxers can make a successful jump to MMA

lol@fedor playing with his bellybutton. how does a guy with this build/weight/height dominate?
Several reasons. A will to be the best and total focus throughout training and the perfect mindset at fight time.
As for his skill set, Fedor has power. His arms and shoulders as well as his legs have some size, he is just not lean. Then the way he throws the looping punches with his body weight behind them = power.
Then he has the best transition game of any HW IMO. He goes from a clinch to the ground and transitions better than just about anyone. He often lands in top position. It comes from all his years in sambo and practicing throws and landing on top where he has both GnP and submission skills that are pretty equal and very good.
Finally, hand speed. He throws hard, but for a heavyweight, his punches are actually lightening fast and he beats other HW's to the punch and follows up with great finishing. He doesn't give guys the chance to recover if he hurts them.
Just very well rounded in every aspect.

Hasn't Werdum beaton both Fedor AND Overeem? Shouldn't he be considered one of the favorites?
Yes, he also beat Big Foot Silva. So he has a win over everyone on his side the bracket.

He is unbelievable at punching this way but not a great way for someone to punch. Thats why he always has a broken hand after he fights.
Posted on 2/12/11 at 12:18 pm to KingwoodLsuFan
I agree. His looping puches generate more force, but are not good for injuries. Also, he has broken his hand with GnP from throwing hammerfists and striking with the side of his fist on his pinkie finger.
Posted on 2/12/11 at 2:39 pm to Tiger n Miami AU83
he also throws those over-hand "casting" punches that land on the back of his hand. that's why he always breaks his hand.
