Still can’t believe Washington kept putting 7 out there at RB.

Don’t get me wrong, that guy is a very good player. I watched quite a bit of Washington games throughout the season and he was a legit threat back there.

However, he clearly lacked any burst last night and never got to top speed, couldn’t make anyone miss, had no power when hitting the hole.

When he got hurt, UM just stayed in two deep all night and never let UW ever get vertical and were pinning their ears back in pass rush. It seemed imperative that UW try to establish a running game to get Michigan out of that two deep shell all night, but they never tried anyone other than Dylan Johnson.

I get that it’s the NC and you want to put your best players out there. But it was exceedingly evident that continuing to put 7 out there did not help at all.

Washington could’ve won regardless if Penix played better

I mean yeah, that’s certainly the case. But it’s hard to run their type of offense when you never get the defense out of position. Their offense was predicated on deep throws. Makes it much more difficult to do that when the safeties just camp back there.

I was thinking the same thing. I understand the toughness and want to play in a national title game and don’t think it would’ve changed the outcome of the game, but at some point the coaching staff had to see he was a liability

It probably wouldn’t have mattered to get Johnson healthy, but I thought the one week turnaround was ridiculous. The teams got home Tuesday from two exhausting games and really only had two days to prep and get rest before going back to Houston. I think the break last year was 11 days. This game should have been Thursday. But, maybe NRG didn’t want a quick turnaround with a playoff game (but Jerryworld did the Cotton Bowl and Cowboys back to back, so….).

Washington's problem was their QB was a dumpster fire.

The only thing that made sense to me was their other backs must be horrible in pass protection.

He actually sprained his other ankle on the first run of the game, which was the issue here.

Their OL got its arse kicked all night. Penix only got sacked once but he was under pressure almost every time he dropped back to throw.

I am amazed that he actually played last night after seeing the end of the UT game. He was obviously unable to play at that level after his ankle got rolled (yet again) in the first quarter. He couldn't even walk without a limp before the game. UM had no respect for their running game at all.
If they felt like he was their best option at RB last night, then that says to me that they have ZERO options behind him.

Thought the same thing until the backup came in and dropped the easiest pass for a third down that's ever been thrown.
