His good playing days are a ways behind him. He went 14 years in a row ranked in the top 100. Now he can't stay in the top 200.
He's hasn't been a good golfer for about 4 years now. Hasnt' even been an average golfer in that time span.
He's more or less retiring b/c he's not that good anymore.

Not to take anything away from him, or this decision, but it probably wasn't a hard decision to make considering his below average game the last 4 years.

He's won $315k in 2016. He won $695k in 2015, $929k in 2014, & $1 mil in 2013.

I grew up playing junior golf with him. He was one of the rare childhood phenoms that ended up living up to his full potential. Best wishes to his wife on hopefully making a full recovery.

I went to school with Stewart for 4 years and we were good friends. He was then, and is still a great guy. Wish the best for his wife and family through this.
