I just really dont get it. Im obviously not from a city with an pro sports team but I dont get how people idolize certain players.

I do love Bama sports but I honestly don't really root for players as much as the team.

Just watching the farewell tours of Kobe and Jeter it is just strange seeing grown men in Kobe jerseys. The Tiger Woods worship always was perplexing to me as well.

Your school has a full blown cult of personalty around its head coach, so there's that.

Half the state of Alabama married their sibling wearing a Tide jersey.

He's not a sports hero to them.

He's a god.

Yeah, makes more sense to want to watch a great players last games...

Instead of standing around worshiping a statue....

Yup i have never been. Ha ha over any player in any sport. No real Heros . I had some fans I would go out of my way to watch , like magic and MJ , Pete rose, dale Murphy . They have have some that let an athlete be there idol and shite and that's fine. My latest fav was jeter. I hate the Yanks but I liked how Jeter handled himself on and off the field.

I'm a huge sports fan, but the sports hero worship and just the general level of seriousness people place on sports are sooooooo weird to me.

The video of dudes from opposing teams fighting during/after games, it's something my brain can't even really comprehend the thought of me ever even dreaming of doing.

Lou Gehrig is my sports hero and one worthy of lots of praise IMO. His stoicism while having ALS is one of the most profound things in sports history, IMO.

As you get older, it seems so stupid. I sort of understand it in pro sports if a guy plays his entire career somewhere. However, the worship of college kids (especially in recruiting) is 1,000 times worse and creepy IMO. But, I guess people would say that passion is driven by loyalty to their alma mater or whatever.

I agree with Lou. 2,130 straight and was a top 10 player all- time. His speech is priceless.

what i dont get is when grown men worry about what other grown men are doing with their lives. To me that is more of an issue.

idol is a word i dont use. But i have several sports superstars that i respect greatly, and place them above the rest. Everyone has favorites, that doesnt bother me though or seem strange.
