FC star Conor McGregor is not retired. He just wants to focus on what he feels is his real job -- fighting. McGregor, 27, released a statement on social media Thursday stating he was not retired, despite a post earlier in the week that said he was retiring. On Tuesday, UFC pulled McGregor from a scheduled rematch against Nate Diaz at UFC 200 on July 9, saying McGregor had refused to fly to Las Vegas to participate in promotional obligations.
quote:

"I am just trying to do my job and fight here," McGregor wrote on Facebook. "I am paid to fight. I am not yet paid to promote. I have become lost in the game of promotion and forgot about the art of fighting. "There comes a time when you need to stop handing out flyers and get back to the damn shop."

He doesn't care as long as people buy the fight. I can't stand Floyd Mayweather, but he is the one that perfected this.

My theory is that he came to his senses about the Diaz rematch and needed a way to back out while saving face.

Now reports saying fight is officially off!! LINK
quote:

Conor McGregor's Facebook statement wasn't enough to move the UFC -- the organization is officially calling off his fight with Nate Diaz ... a fight that came with a $10 MILLION paycheck, TMZ Sports has learned. Our sources tell us ... besides the massive payday, the UFC told Conor it was willing to move mountains to accommodate the fighter during the UFC 200 media tour. Not only did UFC offer to fly Conor to every destination on a top-of-the-line private jet ... but also offered to ship out every single piece of his gym equipment from Iceland to Vegas for this weekend's media event so there wouldn't be a kink in Conor's training. We're told McGregor was told his gym would be set up identically to his Iceland training center and it would all be ready to go the second he stepped off the plane. Still, McGregor refused to budge -- and our sources tell us Conor was "shocked" when he was told the media obligations in Vegas were mandatory.

Ok Dana is being an idiot, wtf can replace the caliber of a McGregor fight that'll draw the same amount of money. I highly doubt DC will be ready in time for Bones in July

Nah, Dana made the smart move here. You can't let Connie McGoober start controlling you. Connie made a power play and Dana respectfully requested that Connie describe the flavor of his dick.

Don't think Dana can claim victory when he just lost his biggest draw to what was supposed to be the biggest fight night of his sport's existence. There are times to be stubborn and times to manage your biggest stars ego. He could have inflicted whatever damage he wanted to after this fight was over.

Like I said in the other thread, the UFC made McGoober, not the other way around. The UFC grew after losing Lesnar. The UFC grew after losing GSP. Connie has been a flash in the pan that hit at the right time. He basically has one quality win on his resume. UFC was already growing before he hit the roster. He gets his arse beat by a career 2nd banana and THEN pulls this shite?

No he couldn't. After the fight, Connie is $10MM richer. This way, he just cost himself $10MM. That $10MM is more meaningful to McGoober than whatever amount the Fertitas will be foregoing is to them.

The promo tour is a joke, and the idea that it would be a dealbreaker for the fight to not happen is a bigger joke.

Connor could have filmed a 24/7 series on his training in Iceland, and it probably would have been more interesting than the lame press conferences with fake drama.

The promo tour is part of his contract and the UFC made all kinds of concessions for him, but the Queen of Self-Promotion has suddenly gotten too big/important to do what made him what he is.

Is this a good place to make an inappropriate and too-soon Prince joke?
