I guess Chip doesn't have to sell his house.

Cal got pissed with Dykes courting other gigs. He interviewed for 2 last year? And put his name out there for another 1 or 2 gigs.

Interviewing for other gigs combined with being 19-30 and 10-26 in the PAC.

Where you getting this from, bud? The article you posted only says this
quote:

It would be one thing if Cal were targeting a massive name to replace Dykes, and even though some fans are clamoring for Chip Kelly, the two names getting the most buzz right now are Wisconsin DC Justin Wilcox and Cal Interim head coach and OC Jake Spavital.

Isn't Cal the school that is most in debt due to football something like 300 million? Dropping the cash to get Kelly would be viewed as an investment.

I'm guessing they fired Dykes b/c Kelly became available.

Why the holy hell would Cal not hire Kelly, instead of fricking Jake Spaivitol or some generic DC?

I know they're in debt, but Kelly would bring massive new revenue to your school by hiring him. In my mind he'd be even better than he was at Oregon because of his closer location to recruits.

Closer location than Oregon but I don't think Cal has the booster support or facilities that the UO has

Not to mention much stricter admission standards, assuming they don't have some special exemption for athletes.

Gets fired. Collects $5,000,000 in buyout.

Nice work.

As of two years ago, they didn't have a football practice facility and thier Game day atmosphere was abysmal. Cal's stadium is a pretty cool setting, though.

All that said, Tedford had some great success there for a few years even during USC's run, so I'm sure Chip could make it work as well.
