So for $20 you get 12 channels: ESPN, TNT, CNN, HGTV and the Disney Channel and some others

Sports Extra ($5) – Networks include: SEC Network, ESPNU, ESPNEWS, ESPN Buzzer Beater, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN Bases Loaded, Univision Deportes, Universal Sports, and beIN Sports

so $25 for all --- no contract.

If ESPN would just go ala cart, they would make a mint and all of us would only have to pay $5 a month.

If ESPN went a la carte, you would not be paying only $5 per month.

They reason they "only" charge $5 per month is because they get like 100 million subscribers because it's included in nearly every cable and satellite package.

My point being that EVERYONE would subscribe directly through ESPN and they wouldn't have to pay a middle man.

They could charge $5 and make more than Sling is paying them.

Some of y'all are so damn dense.

ESPN charges cable and satellite companies like $5 per subscriber already. If it was a la carte, they wouldn't get 100 million subscribers.

Very interesting. That Sports package is way better than expected. I wonder why they don't have ESPN2 though. The rare time my team has a game there would be frustrating.

Ok, then $10.

I looked it up, ESPN makes on average a little over $6.

I was honestly surprised.

Maybe I'm the dense one.

ESPN and ESPN2 are included in the basic package.

Kids 50 years from now will laugh hysterically at our cable system of today. Biggest ripoff to the consumer. Up there with diamonds & mattresses.

You don't know how much the price would go up. At $10 they'd need to get 50 million subscribers to make the same amount.

But if they charge too much, they will price people out.

I guarantee you that they make more money now than they would a la carte.

The only thing most cord cutters need is streaming sports. There would be a huge market.

it would be a bigger ripoff if you paid a la carte. You'd pay way more per channel, and the stations would make less money. That means shows you like on AMC like Breaking Bad would have a much smaller budget.

When the costs are spread over 90 to 100 million people, it's cheaper for everybody per channel.

There would be a nice market, but nowhere near 100 million subscribers.

Yeah the BTN is throwing a wrench into the works. Especially if they can sell their product a la cart.

They could basically not sign a deal with ABC/ESPN and just put everything on BTN, BTN2, BTN3 etc.

I don't know how the marketability would be since it would be regional but it's an idea I'm sure they're exploring.

I would rather pay $20 for 10 channels that I actually watch than $80 for 100 channels when I only watch 10 of them.

It's gonna be very interesting the way things go, I think the market is clearly has shifted the immediate demand/streaming market.

Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus, et al are the future. Especially with their original content. They have better shows, can experiment with different content and aren't afraid to produce a bust. Breaking Bad will be made for Amazon Prime and Netflix now.
