Why do people give him any airtime.

Skip is living in the past.
It used to be...you can lose early but you can't lose late...under the polls...the felt obligated to drop you 5-7 places. Happened all the time in the 80's and 90's.
Under this system? Bama would probably stay #1 considering ESPN just had them on the front page saying ..."Is this the best Bama team of all-time!"
I can't remember if there ever has been a #1 team that lost their final game and didn't drop a few places...ever...let alone stay #1 regardless if they still have only 1-loss like everyone else.
I don't think its ever happened. But that was before a committee and TV ratings became everything.

hearken back to the day when only conference champs got into the NCAA basketball tournament.
Here's what would happen: North Carolina is upset in a nail biter in the ACC tournament. Oh oh. Tar heels are in the the NIT.
in those days the Catholic schools were IND. the two best INDs were seeded into the tournament.
I would welcome such clarity. the playoffs are a tournament.
eliminate any team that does not win a P5 conference. if one of the G5 appears to merit inclusion, not just based on being undefeated, but head to head against P5 teams then pit the G5 champ against the lesser of the top 4 P5 champs.
a bye week for the three top P5 champs.

Bayless is a blight on America. He just says stuff to get attention and be controversial. It is all a very transparent act.
That said, yes, Bama should probably be out of the playoffs if they lose this weekend. One can only hope it happens. It just isn't very likely.
