Buddy of mine has horse running Thursday afternoon at La. Downs. Looking to play golf somewhere, maybe Old Oaks or Stonebridge before the race. Any info on quality of either course would be much appreciated. First race, Flying Machine, 20-1.

Stonebridge is in excellent shape...Olde Oaks' greens are in better shape than they've been in a few years(played there last Thursday), but they've totally given up on all the traps. Call Stonebridge and get you a tee time.

Stonebridge for the win. 9:30 tee time, closer to the track. Is it cooler up north there. Kinda of warm down here.

Good call. Stonebridge is in the best shape it's possibly ever been in.

Haven't played it since it opened back in the late nineties. The pro shop was a trailer and there wasn't a house one on the course. Played in a fund raiser for the Centenary Baseball team I think.

Give us an update sometime after your round on what you thought about the course.

Update on Stonebridge. Nice course and in good shape. Only knock was it lacked a beverage cart, but we had our own, so saved a few bucks to wager at the track. My buddies horse came in 4th, so they won a little also. My golf sucked except the last 5 holes. One in the group shot 76, first time he played the course. Going back Wednesday for another race, looking for another place to play. Any recs. other than Olde Oaks? TIA

If you can get on the course, Southern Trace. If not, stonebridge is better than anywhere else. Older Oaks was nice, 27 holes, but it's been shite the last few times I played it.

Here are our ratings (my foursome):
We have not played Stonebridge so cannot judge.

Our rankings:

1. Cypress Hills in Waskom...just across the state line in Texas. Really nice views.

2. Northwood in Shreveport... re-opened and has very nice mix of challenges and great visuals.

3. Olde Oaks...Bossier... you are gonna lose a few balls but we love it. We're playing OO tomorrow morning.

4. Huntington... Shreveport... Long course with lots of random grass. But I love getting to tee off at sunrise when some animals are still on the 2nd fairway.

5. Crooked Hollow .. Rural Shreveport..this place is doing great business. Very nice greens.

6. Barksdale... This is a crappy military course. If you get behind a General you will take 7 hours to play.

7. Meadowlake...a Cow Pasture. But it's only 18 bucks.

8. Palmetto ... in Benton. It's totally free. But since it shut down you're gonna have to jump the fence and play on the sly.

Shreveport Country Club is a decent option as well.

I didn't know Northwood was back open. What is the green fee over there now? It used to be a great value for what it was.

East Ridge is where it's at. Great old club, if you can get on.
