So if the QB is outside of the pocket every defender can tackle all the receivers with no penalty?
I don't know the exact rule, but I think an actual tackle would be a form of holding or something along those lines.

But they can make contact with the WR, yes as long as the ball isn't in the air, then PI comes into play.

Can't tackle, but can hit.

The rulebook states: If the quarterback leaves the pocket area with the ball in his possession, the restrictions on illegal contact and an illegal cut block both end, but the restriction on defensive holding remains in effect.

So it sounds like a wrap up type tackle would fall under holding, but you can just hit the guy, which is what Sherman did here.

It was a clean play. I suspect that the people complaining about the hit are the same people that complain about WRs being allowed to run all over the field without being hit.

Oh the good old days when the defense was allowed to play defense.

It's really just people who blindly hate Richard Sherman, there are a lot of those on the MSB.

and Sherman gets on twitter and defends his garbage

no one holds as much as he does, and the refs allow it. its the main reason the seattle secondary was good. they fricking hold on every play.

There ain't a damn thing wrong with disliking Richard Sherman. He is a very unlikeable person.

Sherman thought he had the ball and the whistle hadn't been blown yet, I see nothing wrong with that play.

NFL should have a rule that if you make a dirty hit on someone and they are hurt, you sit out as long as they do with no pay and no team contact.

This sounds good on paper but I don't want the NFL to have anymore power than they do to influence the outcomes of games. I'm sure the NFL would have a real "creative" opinion on what is or is not a dirty hit.
