Shaq says the 2001 Lakers would beat 2016 GSW with or without rule changes

What does the MSB say?
quote:
If you're using those rules, we'd win. Now we use these rules these days, we'd still win, because you wouldn't be allowed to touch me, you wouldn't be allowed to touch Kobe," O'Neal said. "So yeah, that's how I always look at it."
quote:
O'Neal and Kobe Bryant were an unstoppable dynamic duo that averaged 59.8 points per game through their historic playoff run. Beyond that, this team was made up of veteran role players who're past their prime. Plus Derek Fisher. They had the league's 10th worst defensive rating during the regular season before infamously tightening their screws in the playoffs, where they held opponents to 95.3 points per 100 possessions (better than this year's top-ranked San Antonio Spurs).
quote:
But, the question is, how would they match up Golden State? It's more than reasonable to suggest that the 22-year-old Bryant would struggle against Andre Iguodala and Golden State's switch-happy scheme. As someone who really struggled from behind the three-point line, it's hard to imagine how he'd be efficient in a seven-game series against all those long arms.
O'Neal, L.A.'s best player, would be the key. Would the Death Lineup run him off the floor, or would O'Neal brutalize Draymond Green in the post, get him in foul trouble and force Steve Kerr to stay big?
What does the MSB say?

Shaq smoking Phil's peyote.

Impossible...this is the greatest team ever assembled. No one else can possibly compete.

quote:what d person thinks Green would be defending Shaq? The Warriors have a 7 footer. He couldn't stop Shaq, but he's a solid defensive big man.
would O'Neal brutalize Draymond Green in the post,
No doubt Lakers would beat Warriors but it'd be 6 to 7 game series. Kobe would make sure Curry or Thompson never went off.

I don't see how Golden State would be able to deal with prime Shaq, even with all their length and depth. Bogut and Ezeli would be up shite creek without a paddle matched up with him imo
Maybe I'm just biased

I don't know how in the world GS stops a prime Shaq.
What's Draymond going to do to prevent this?

Give me the Lakers with Robert Horry.

i mean, shaq is arguably the most dominant player post-Wilt for that 3-5 year stretch.
i can see it either way. i think the lakers would have won playing with 2001 rules for sure. guarding shaq one-on-one was pretty impossible.

quote:How can anyone say "no doubt" that the team with the most wins of all time lose? I have no clue why every modern athlete and achievement has to be met with such vitriol. It is a weird phenomenon that is happening. The second GSW got 73 wins, the ole discrediting machine got fired up

Green plays the 5 in GS's vaunted death lineup. So Kerr would have to decide to either stay big and keep Draymond at the 4 or play his best lineup and let Shaq eat everyone alive in the paint.

The Warriors are an all-time team and belong in the discussion, but prime Shaq would dominate that series. Lakers in 6.

This is all comes down to. SHAQ

It would be a phenomenal matchup obviously. Shaq would be dominant on the offensive end, but don't forget his weakness was getting out on the floor and covering the pick-and-roll, which GS would run to death big or small.
No way Curry and Thompson would get away with their current lack of production...they would have to match what Shaq and Kobe put up.
GS in 7.

Shaq would be unstoppable. They'd sweep the Warriors

Kobe isn't stopping Steph or Klay
SHAQ would carry him to a title. Nobody can stop him.

so Kobe goes on Curry, Shaq eats Draymond alive...
i'd go Curry, Klay, Draymond, Bogut, and Iguadola
Bogut gives you something in the paint even though Shaq was unstoppable then.

Young Kobe would probably lock one of the two down but the other would likely abuse Fisher.

quote:he was an all defense 2nd team in 2001. Would he shut them down completely? Maybe not. But keep them from going nuclear? Absolutely

I'd take the Lakers as long as we are talking about what that team was during its playoff run. I don't know if we're talking about the team before April
