SEC cannot allow Texas to join PAC 12

This may upset A&M posters
As of this moment going forward I believe PAC 12 vs SEC is the battle for college athletic supremacy
The PAC 12 revenue wise is for sure behind the SEC but not talent
If Texas would join the PAC 12 I feel the balance would be shifted to a position that is irreversible
Best case scenario for the SEC would be Texas to go either independent or for the Big 12 to stay together
If either cannot happen than I say the SEC does whatever it takes to bring in Texas
Even them in the ACC or BIG could be problematic

Why would the sec care if the pac12 was in better financial shape? It's not a zero sum game. And In fact college football is more profitable if the other leagues are performing.

Texas is a program that could create a barrier at the Sabine River
The introduction of A&M opened the door to more 5 star players for SEC schools but that door could close if Texas would join the PAC 12
USC during the Pete Carroll reign could steal players out of the South and it could happen again
Financially it allows programs to hire better head coaches and then assistants
Look at the ACC for an example since they signed their new deal

You think A&M can hold down that state you are ignorant
This is not Kentucky nor South Carolina we are speaking of
Georgia and Florida will always be a battle ground with more programs than I could speak of battling for recruits
Maybe the SEC could turn Texas like that but I see Herman with his Houston connections bringing SE Texas back into UT's sphere of influence

I said so in a valid argument but if my argument was too much for you to handle I understand

How much are you willing to give up to accommodate Texas? There's no way they're going to come to the SEC and accept the way the SEC is right now. It would be chaos getting the SEC schools to agree to the terms Texas would want to join the conference. Even though it might hurt the SEC some if Texas goes to the Pac 12 it will help college football much more seeing Texas play teams like USC, UCLA, Stanford, Washington, and Oregon every year.

You made an argument from your point of view.
The thread title made it seem like the SEC wouldn't or couldn't allow TX to join the Pac-12. It was misleading imo.

We've all been there with threads or posts, I know I have.

This is a highly relevant offseason topic since the college sports financial and prestige landscape will evolve in a major way when the Big 12 dissolves in about 4 or 5 years.
I believe that the SEC's dream adds at this time would be UNC and UTexas (contiguous high population states with big name big tradition big $$ and top notch academics). But, the outlook for the ACC is on the upswing with Notre Dame affiliating (BTW they will never join the Big 10), FSU and Clemson winning NCs, and the announcement of a true ACC Network to come.
Furthermore, the Big 12 continues to flounder: recruiting/sparse NFL talent, lack of playoff success, low population states to the north, Baylor rape, etc.
If there is a move to 4 power conferences of 16 teams each, the SEC will attempt to add 2 of these 3: KU, OU and UTexas. Whichever of the 3 does not go the SEC would land in the Big 10 or Pac 12/16 and wither...

It's a football first state always in the top 3 of FBS and NFL talent production, with the population going over the 30MM mark soon. I don't see how any single program can ever "hold down" the state going forward.

They do produce a few more players than the 25 a year limit that one school can take.
